Chapter 126 - Captain's Quarters

Yuma turns and sees a sign labeled:

Captain's quarters

Yuma

Yuma closed the heavy door to the captain's quarters behind him, the soft creak of wood signaling his entrance into the largest and most secluded room on The Emperor. The air inside was different from the lively chatter on deck—a stillness that immediately reminded him why he needed this space.

The quarters were spacious, with a grand mahogany desk situated near the back, where maps and navigation tools were neatly arranged. A large window framed the view of the ocean, stretching endlessly into the horizon. The bed in the corner was simple but sturdy, like everything on this ship—built to last, built to survive. Just like him.

Yuma moved toward the window, feeling the weight of the ship beneath his feet. His reflection in the glass stared back at him: the scarred face, the bandages still wrapped around his broken left arm. His chest ached under the bandages where the deep slashes from past battles were still healing, but he ignored the pain. He had been through worse.

"This is only the beginning" As he leaned against the window's edge, his thoughts drifted, the waves outside pulling memories to the surface.

Those who had fallen for the cause—their faces flashed before his mind's eye. Kuza, An old friend that sparked his journey of rebellion, had been the first to die. He had fought valiantly against Nezxa, but in the end, he died in vain. He remembered his blood on his hands, the weight of his body as he held him moments after his death. His grave sitting peacefully under a tree covered in vines.

Then there was Nezxa, their first enemy turned Ally. He was like a father to Kinsha, always guiding her with steady hands and calm wisdom. Nezxa had been executed- no… he sacrificed himself for Yuma during the DeathFest on Conquest island. Yuma clenched his fist, the memory of Nezxa dissolving into Magma twisting his gut. He had been powerless to stop it back then, but now…

"I'm no longer as weak as back then" His gaze hardened as he looked out over the horizon. Now, he had power. Now, he had the strength to make them pay.

Each death, each loss, only pushed him closer to his goal. The bloodshed didn't weaken him; it forged him, made him colder, sharper. Every life the World Government had taken from him fueled his need for vengeance. If humanity was the price he had to pay, so be it.

He turned from the window and crossed the room to his desk. There, a worn map lay spread out, its corners curling from years of use. Red markings littered the paper—Marine bases, World Government strongholds, and key locations of power. His eyes traced the lines, seeing not just the obstacles, but the potential victories. He leaned over the desk, his breath slow but heavy.

"I'll take them all down," he muttered, the words barely audible in the quiet room.

"One by one."

The crew gathered in The Emperor's meeting room, the soft hum of the ocean outside filling the silence along with the crackle of the lamps. Yuma stood at the head of the long wooden table, his arms crossed, his expression focused and intense. His bandaged arm was stiff at his side, a constant reminder of battles past. Around the table sat Kinsha, Ika, Cani, Boombox, and Moon, their expressions a mix of curiosity and apprehension as they waited for their captain to speak.

Yuma's gaze swept over them, taking in each of their faces. He felt their eyes on him, waiting for direction. Waiting for the next move. He could feel the weight of leadership like a stone on his chest, but it didn't deter him. If anything, it fueled him.

"We're going after the Marine base," Yuma said, his voice steady but cold, cutting through the quiet like a blade.

"It's nearby. We'll hit them hard and fast, take what we need, and leave them in the dust." There was a pause, tension rising in the air. Kinsha shifted in her seat, eyebrows furrowed.

"You're sure? You just took down Ikati, Yuma. The crew's still recovering. Shouldn't we wait, regroup a bit longer?" Yuma's eyes darkened, his expression hardening.

"We can't afford to wait, Kinsha… Every second we sit around doing nothing, the World Government tightens its grip... We need to keep pushing." Ika leaned forward, his eyes scanning the room.

"But isn't it risky? A Marine base so soon? They'll be on high alert after what we did to Ikati." Yuma shot him a sharp look.

"I know the risks. But this isn't just about raids or revenge anymore. We need to start dismantling their power structure—piece by piece. Make sure our efforts leave a lasting impact" The room fell into an uneasy silence. Everyone could feel the shift in Yuma lately—the quiet brooding, the simmering aggression beneath the surface.

He wasn't the same as he used to be. He was more driven, more focused… but also more dangerous. Cani's eyes met Boombox's across the table, both of them silently exchanging glances. They'd noticed it too, the way Yuma's determination had begun to shift into something darker.

"Yuma," Cani finally said, her voice measured.

"I get why you want to keep the pressure on them. But you've been different lately... Quieter. More…" She trailed off, not wanting to say it, but the implication hung in the air. Yuma didn't flinch, his eyes locking with hers.

"Focused." Boombox leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, a frown tugging at his lips.

"Yeah, but there's a difference between focus and obsession, Yuma. You're treading a fine line. You're getting close to that place again." Yuma's jaw clenched, his patience clearly thinning.

"What place?" Boombox didn't back down, his gaze steady.

"The line between hero and villain… You've been there before, man… You lose sight of who you're fighting for, and you become no different than the people you're trying to take down." Yuma's fists clenched at his sides, his anger rising.

"I know exactly who I'm fighting for. I'm fighting for freedom—for everyone who's died because of the World Government's tyranny... I'm not going to let them control this world any longer." The tension in the room crackled, the crew watching the exchange with cautious eyes. Cani leaned in, her voice softer this time.

"No one's questioning your goal, Yuma. We're all with you. But you can't lose yourself in this fight. We need you… not just your anger." Yuma looked away, his jaw tight. For a moment, the room was silent, the sound of the waves outside filling the space once again. After a long pause, he exhaled sharply and straightened, his voice lower but still firm.

"We hit the Marine base. That's final." No one spoke. They could sense that any further debate would go nowhere. Yuma had made up his mind, and no one could deny the fire in his eyes, even if it burned a little too hot. They nodded, albeit reluctantly, knowing they had no choice but to follow their captain's lead.

As the crew slowly dispersed, Boombox and Cani hung back, their conversation quieter now that Yuma had left the room.

"He's definitely changing," Cani muttered, arms crossed as she leaned against the wall.

"Yeah," Boombox replied, shaking his head.

"He's always been intense, but lately… it's different. He's starting to cross that line again. Back when we first started, I thought we were fighting to free people. Now? It feels like he's fighting for revenge." Cani's eyes softened.

"He's been through a lot… We all have... But you're right. If he's not careful, he'll lose sight of what we're really fighting for." Boombox sighed, looking toward the door where Yuma had exited.

"I just hope he remembers before it's too late." They stood in silence for a moment, each lost in their thoughts, the weight of what was to come hanging heavily over them. The path ahead was only getting darker, and they all knew that Yuma's ambition could either lead them to victory… or destroy them all.
