The next thing I knew, I was lying on the floor.
The entire exchange had happened so quickly that I barely understood what had gone wrong.
It had taken only an instant.
Unfortunately, that single instant had been more than enough to decide the outcome.
I managed to catch a glimpse of what happened before my vision began to blur around the edges. Seras had moved past me at an incredible speed, slipping through my attack before thrusting her estoc straight into my stomach.
The blade had pierced my body with terrifying ease.
"Kuh..." I groaned, clutching my side as I felt warm blood slipping between my fingers. "Damn it, looks like you've got me good."
My strength was already beginning to fade, and I could feel the unpleasant weakness spreading through my body. I tried to steady my breathing while keeping pressure on the wound, but the situation wasn't looking particularly promising.
Still, something about the attack bothered me.
