He reached the city of Shanghai, entered a Buddhist temple, and found a monk sitting inside.
Raising his hands, he held out the box.
The monk took the dwarf out of the box and placed it among the statues.
Grandfather and the monk sat in silence, contemplating it while practicing yoga movements.
Suddenly, the dwarf spoke, moving its hand and saying:
"Grandfather, charge it."
The monk immediately stood up in alarm. He hurried back and called the servants, shouting:
"Arrest this man and destroy that statue!"
Grandfather heard these words. He quickly rose, seized the machine, and escaped from the temple.
Feeling hungry, he entered a restaurant next to the tavern once owned by the dwarf.
He sat down and placed the machine beside him.
The host approached and asked,
"What would you like me to serve you?"
Grandfather replied,
"A plate of eel."
The host glanced at the dwarf and asked,
"And you, sir—what would you like?"
Grandfather laughed and said,
"It's just a machine."
But the host shook his head.
"No… his face resembles the owner of the restaurant and tavern. We haven't seen him for a long time."
Grandfather then asked,
"Please, do you have electricity? I need to charge the machine."
The host said,
"Wait."
A little while later, he returned with a power cord and handed it to Grandfather.
"Here, charge the battery."
Grandfather plugged in the dwarf to charge and began eating his lunch.
