Chapter 44 - Wolves have red eyes

Colin arrived at his house. The carriage stopped in front of the door. Sula and her children got out and stood by the entrance, waiting for Colin, who took the wolves to the stable.

A few moments later, Colin returned quickly to open the house. He reached into his pocket for the key… but found nothing. He shouted loudly:

Colin: The house keys are gone!

He looked at Sula:

Colin: I must have left them in the village.

Sula: Sit down for a moment and think carefully. Maybe they fell inside the carriage.

Sayle: Uncle, my cat took your keys. She wears keys around her neck.

Sula: Quiet! Don't mention that damned monster — she might hear you and come here.

Vizilla: Mother, that cat stayed in the village. I saw her on the roof of our house.

Colin: Is it true, sister? Will that cat appear?

Sula: Yes… and maybe what Sayle said about your keys is true.

Colin: If that cat took my keys, then she'll get rid of me… just like she got rid of Cappelli.

Sula: I won't let her do that.

Sayle: Uncle, my cat is beautiful and affectionate. She once took me to my father, Cappelli. She loves to play with children and adults. She's not like other cats — she has supernatural powers. She wears keys decorated around her neck. Maybe my father tied them there when she was young so she wouldn't get lost. Mother wouldn't harm her.

Suddenly, the wolves began howling loudly. They had seen the monster cat standing before them. She addressed them:

Monster Cat: You fools… why don't you join us, we monsters? What have you gained with that old man except exhaustion? Come with me — I will take you to the castle, where there's tender meat.

The wolves fell silent. Their green eyes turned blood red. The monster cat walked before them, strutting like a lion, and sang:

O wolves, I have stolen your minds

O wolves, do not be loyal

You are wolves…

Your friends have fought with us in the castle

To keep monsters ruling over humans

Perhaps you'll enjoy a rest before you're called to battle again

Tell me, wolf — who is your master? The cat or the man?

Shout it loud, howl like me… your cat… your cat!
