Chapter 11
They had just finished their ramen and were heading back to campus when Izuku received an emergency call from principal Nezu. Momo saw the name and was equally intrigued by the reason for the call.
"Hello Nedzu? Izuku speaking." He was hoping something didn't happen.
"WHERE ARE YOU? WHY DID YOU LEAVE CAMPUS?" The mouse was screaming and Izuku had never heard the man lose his temper before he was really worried now.
"I just went with Momo to get Ramen and look out at the sunset? Did something happen?" Izuku was very confused.
"DID NO ONE TELL YOU NOT TO LEAVE THE CAMPUS? You are being targeted by you know who and not only does he know about you now he has a warp quirk on his side. Kidnapping you in a public space would be child's play. Get back to campus immediately, quirk usage is authorized. We can't let him take you Izuku, I swear how did neither All Might nor Tsukauchi tell you not to leave. I'm going to severely discipline them later but regardless get back to campus immediately and head to my office to report in once you do." The mouse hung up on a very bitter note.
Momo was staring at him from the side with fear in her eyes, Izuku meanwhile was cursing at himself for being stupid. "Momo it's time for a hang glider, we're flying back." Thankfully Momo understood and quickly created one, they both hung on as Izuku launched them into the sky to fly back towards the safety that is the campus of U.A.
"Izuku who is you know who?" Momo looked at Izuku mid glide.
Izuku sputtered, well I should tell her now that he's alive. "Momo i'm not the first person with my quirk, the previous user well we found out he's still alive today and he has been for over 200 years. A quirk to stop aging perhaps? All Might had thought he'd killed him but the enemy basically confirmed he's alive. I won't sugar coat it, he's going to come for us at some point. We both have quirks he will want with abandon."
Momo was shocked she knew a villainous user of Izuku's quirk would be scary but that was hypothetical, now that it's real the thought terrified her. "What do we do Izuku?"
"The only thing we can do, we prepare and oh please do not tell All Might I told you. He'll want to do it on his own terms." Izuku was paling realizing how stupid he had been.
Thankfully it seems the enemy did not have any plans for them today and they safely flew over the border of the U.A. wall.
"Well we made it at least. I've never heard Nezu scream before I must've really fucked up, I'm sorry I took you out Momo." Izuku realized he had probably gotten the girl in trouble as well.
"No, no it's fine I wanted to go with you remember? Let's just get to the principal's office before he gets even angrier. We weren't told not to so we can't be in any real trouble." At least Momo hoped so. They walked in silence the rest of the way to the massive double doors of the principal of U.A. Izuku knocking before opening the door.
"We're here Principal Nedzu. We used a hang glider to get back I hope that won't be too much trouble." Izuku said while rubbing the back of his head before remembering. "More importantly is Aizawa-Sensei going to be okay principal Nedzu?" Izuku blurted out.
"First on the matter of Eraserhead he will be okay but he will have permanent damage in his right eye, which is a lot better than the alternative had you not intervened. Secondly your usage of quirks is fine I authorized their use after all. Finally and far more importantly I can't believe how stupid you were today, especially after what just happened. While I can't really blame you since the two responsible for letting you know failed to do so. I'm sorry Izuku but you must remain on lockdown on U.A. where it is safe for the foreseeable future. The worst case scenario has been realized and the enemy knows of you and your quirk, anything less would be foolish." The principal of U.A. made it clear there would be no discussion on the matter.
Izuku realizing the plans he and Momo made earlier were ruined, he had to try something. "Umm principal Nezu if I can't leave can people visit? I had plans off of campus tomorrow."
"That is fine Izuku however you must wait a while before I can authorize anyone entering campus, while your safety is the most paramount, everyone is on lockdown not just you. That being said I must stress how important it is that you remain vigilant. Even on campus, the enemy with the warp quirk makes it so unexpected attacks can occur out of nowhere. We are trying to find ways to block that quirk's usage but doing so will take time. In the meantime, be safe and trust in U.A. to keep you safe. If anything feels remotely off you let us know immediately. I would rather it be a false alarm than the alternative, so feel free to cry wolf so to speak. Also I told your class to hold a meeting regarding today's events, I believe they are waiting for you two in the common room, inform them of everything we have discussed. That is all Izuku, please take Ms. Yaoyorozu and yourself back to the dorms for the night and remain there." Nezu said dismissing them.
However Izuku stood firm. "Principal I need to talk to you about something, Momo I promise i'll tell you when I can but could you wait outside? It's another not my secret to tell kind of deal. I'm sorry." Izuku looked dejected that he had to hold the truth from her again.
She saw the look of pain on her boyfriends face and realized this must be pretty important. "It's okay I understand." She tried to reassure him.
Once she was out of the room Izuku continued. "Nedzu I learned something regarding Todoroki. I know something is likely going to happen to him since he basically let Aizawa die but I talked to him and..." he trailed off not sure how to continue.
Thankfully the highly intelligent rat picked up on it. "He has reasons for not using his quirk?"
"Yes but please don't tell him I told you. I mean he didn't exactly tell me not to tell anyone but it's incredibly personal. His father Endeavour, the number two hero. If what Todoroki told me is a person of the worst variety." Izuku paused before Nezu encouraged him to continue. "He's responsible for the death of one of his children and he abused and neglected the rest. He drove his wife to insanity who in turn poured boiling water onto Todoroki's face causing the scarring."
The principal's face turned dark. "He told you this, are you sure? I know you said not to inform him that you told us but as the principal of U.A. high I must make sure my students are safe. We will have to confront him on this but we will keep your name out of it."
Izuku was equally serious. "Yes he told me all of this without a doubt. Enji Todoroki is a bad person and an even worse father. I suspect his legal team and status as the number 2 hero is the only reason he isn't behind bars."
The mouse was sympathetic knowing the pain and abuse humans were capable of. "Alright I will handle this, thank you for bringing it my attention Izuku. You are dismissed."
Izuku passed Power Loader as he exited the room. Seeing Momo on a waiting chair outside of the room he walked over to her.
"Well I guess I'm on house arrest." Izuku said while laughing at Momo.
She did not laugh. "Izuku you have a 200 year old man with not only the same quirk with you and who knows god what other quirks he's stolen but this man is also the infamous lord of darkness and he's hunting for you now. Please listen to Nedzu, this is serious."
Izuku saw the pleading in her eyes. "I know i'll be careful but that doesn't mean you are safe either, remember that same villain is hunting for One for All. We both have massive targets on our backs but thankfully they don't know you have One for All yet. So that's something at least."
They both walked back to the dorms in silence contemplating everything that had happened today. When they got back to the dorms, they found everyone holding a class meeting in the lobby.
Iida was the first and loudest to talk to the couple. "This is the second time both of you our President and Vice-President have been late to our dorm meetings. This is not a good example to be set for your fellow students."
Izuku just looked out to see literally everyone in the class lackadaisical lounging about the room even Bakugo and Todoroki. "Our apologies but Principal Nezu wanted to see us regarding the situation in order to better inform you all." Getting to shut Iida up when he was on a tirade was cathartic.
Iida immediately pressed reverse on the throttle. "I'm sorry it seems I misjudged the situation I must profusely apologize!" He said while bowing.
"It's fine but anyway this is addressed to all of you, we are not to leave campus until further notice and report even the most inconspicuous thing if you believe something to be amiss. The principal said we cannot anticipate the warp quirk user and he would have much rather have a false alarm versus inaction in the case of an actual attack. Secondly Aizawa-Sensei is going to be alright he managed to pull through the worst of it but he will likely have lasting damage in his right eye." Todoroki winced when he heard that.
"Thirdly I would like for us all to share about how our time in the USJ was. It's scary and we all almost died, but we need to all be on the same page. Does anyone want to go first? If not I will." Izuku said as he scanned the room, he saw a few students hands raise, those notably being Kirishima, Tsuyu, Tokoyami, and Momo.
Izuku pointed at Tsuyu to go first.
The frog girl ribbited before speaking. "Kero. Shinsou and I were teleported to the flood zone by that mist guy, we managed to escape after Shinsou brainwashed a group of them and had them start attacking each other. Then I grabbed him with my tongue and fled to the nearby mountains. We just waited there until All Might and the other teachers arrived." Shinsou just nodded at that statement confirming it.
Kirishima was next."I was sent to the Downpour zone with Ojiro and Koda, we were attacked but we used a room to force the villains into fighting us one at a time. It wasn't very manly but neither was trying to murder children." He looked down after that.
Tokoyami detailed his and Momos time in the Ruined city zone, they split up afterwards. Tokoyami went to go help people on the stairs while Momo jumped into the main plaza in order to help Izuku, Aizawa, and Todoroki fight the main three villains.
Izuku decided it was his turn to speak next. "I was dumped into the Conflagration zone with Bakugo. I knew Aizawa was going to need help once I saw that monster with four quirks, so I gave Bakugo Pyrokinesis and ran off trusting him to handle the Conflagration zone." He smiled at Bakugo, who shrugged and told the nerd to fuck off.
Bakugo interjected here. "Yeah the quirked wonder over here dumped one of his shitty quirks on me and I ran amok blowing up and burning every fucker in there. Once I was done in there I rushed out to take out that warp bastard but him and handsy left right as I got there."
Izuku cut back in detailing the fight between the main three and himself, Momo, Todoroki, and their teacher. "Yeah thankfully handsy wasn't using his Nomu till just right after I arrived, Aizawa had just finished up all the common villains. Even with its strength erased and me giving Aizawa-Sensei Super Strength it was somehow stronger than him. The thing had 4 quirks but they were really weird, regular quirks look like strings I can tug on to take but his were ripped and I couldn't take them no matter how hard I pulled. Anyway Shigaraki sicced the thing on Aizawa-Sensei just as soon as I got there. Thankfully he was able to hold the Nomu off for a few seconds because no matter how hard I tried I couldn't do anything to it. Eventually I realized that I couldn't hide all my quirks anymore and so I tried to steal its quirks but like I said I couldn't. Eventually I settled for ripping its brains out, which also somehow didn't work because it somehow grew a new one and stood back up like it was nothing."
A lot of students were in shock that Izuku had literally ripped a villains brains out but then they remembered the pile of bodies Aizawa had left behind. Lethal force is justified sometimes they guessed.
"At that point I thought we were screwed but thankfully the hands villain just started monologuing buying us enough time for Todoroki and Momo to show up. With our backup I stole handsy's quirk and used it to kill the Nomu. Then I went to the hospital with Aizawa-Sensei and the rest you all already know." Izuku glared at Todoroki but didn't out him to the entire class.
Iida decided it was his turn. "The 8 of us who did not get teleported remained on the stairs, Thirteen was downed by her own quirk when Kurogiri redirected it at her but thankfully Sero and Uraraka were able to distract the villain long enough for me to escape and get help. I ran as fast as I could. I truly hope none of you think me a coward for running!" He bowed deeply after that.
Momo interjected next. "No one thinks your a coward Iida, you likely saved our teachers life, if the medics hadn't arrived quickly enough who knows what would've happened."
It looked like Hagakure was raising her hand but eventually just gave up and started talking. "I was sent to the Landslide zone with Todoroki, I was too scared to help sorry Todoroki plus you kind of defeated them all instantly." A pile of floating clothes then bowed.
"It was nothing." Todoroki was confused, didn't he instantly freeze everything around him? Why didn't he hit Hagakure? She must've landed after he froze everything. He's glad he didn't get another person hurt today.
The rocker girl took the time to talk about how her and 'Pikachu' managed to take out a group of villains at the Mountain Zone, which consisted of Kaminari unleashing his maximum output while Jirou hid behind a rock, effective Izuku mused.
"Alright well that's everyone accounted for, I hope you all have a better picture of everything that went down during the events that took place earlier. I'm sure Sensei will say something about learning from any perceived failures you had today. Everyone's dismissed." Izuku finished plopping down onto the couch. He was physically exhausted and needed to rest, he was surprised when another figure did the same while leaning on him, a familiar jet black raven colored ponytail came into view.
"Hey." She just whispered into his ear.
They stayed like this for awhile oblivious to the pink alien girl with horns squealing from the kitchen. Mina absolutely called it she thought oh boy I can't wait to tease Yaomomo and Midori about this.
Momo was the first to speak although little more than a whisper. "Hey can you sleep with me tonight?"
Izuku started blushing immensely. "Um-um-um Momo isn't it too soon for that?" He blurted out.
Momo realizing how what she said sounded immediately backed up waving her hands while blushing. " No-no-no not like that, I just want to stay in the same bed with you again tonight. I know I'm going to have nightmares later and you being around will really help."
Izuku still blushing just nodded at the girl. Izuku finally realized that they were being watched from the kitchen now that he could move his head.
"Heya lovebirds. I knew you two were a thing right, Mi-do-ri." She hummed out that last bit.
"We're uh just really good friends- yeah." He wasn't even convincing himself here.
"Ahuh surreeeeeeeeeee." She said mockingly before walking off.
"The whole class is going to know by morning." Momo said while sighing in defeat. "We couldn't even hide it for a week, god we must be bad at this." She chuckled. "Alright let's go Izu i'm tired and it seems like all the witnesses are gone." She said taking him by the hand before walking upstairs, they decided to use Momo's room since her bed was larger, though not as large as her original one. Thankfully they didn't see anyone on their walk up to the 2nd floor so they were able to enter quietly.
Momo went and immediately took a shower leaving Izuku trapped in the room by himself, he also didn't have any extra clothes on him. Oh well I'll just have momo make some while I take a shower.
"Hey Momo, I just realized I got nothi-" Izuku then noticed the pair of green pjs that were the exact same color as his hair.
She saw him looking down and just started blushing. "It's just a coincidence."
Izuku just gave her a stare that made it clear he didn't believe her but he didn't want to press it plus it was adorable. He coughed "Anyway I just realized I got nothing to change into, can you make me some clothes while I take a shower, thanks." He smiled at her before walking into the shower. Mid shower he heard the door open before Momo spoke into the room saying she dropped the clothes onto the floor for him.
Exiting the shower quite thankful to have gotten the blood, grime, and dust off of him, he swore he was burning that uniform that was literally caked in his teachers blood later. He saw what momo had gotten for him, and smirked. She made him some All Might boxers, an exact replica of his T-Shirt that said T-Shirt and a pair of a pjs in a familiar jet black color. A coincidence huh?
He walked out of the bathroom to see Momo already in bed, she just patted for him to join her. When he did they just cuddled and fell asleep, thankful for the others presence.
It was another three days before classes resumed it being Tuesday when they did. The entire class was seated in silence wondering who their teacher for Homeroom was going to be. Izuku figured it would be present mic or something. The shock went through the entire class when the mummified version of their teacher limped through the door before sitting at this desk.
Tsuyu was the first to speak. "Sensei shouldn't you be resting? I mean look at you. Kero."
There was a silence before a grunt occurred. "That would be irrational, I will be making no strenuous movements so I can easily handle my job while resting at the same time. We have two major things to cover today, while communications were cut at the USJ the recording footage was not. The first will be reviewing the footage and seeing what you all did in such a time of panic. While normally you would never be exposed to such risk, not learning from it would be folly." He began replaying the footage of the USJ attack, showing several different camera angles as well as detailing different strategies that could have been used in each area the students were dropped at. "Some of you froze which could have gotten you killed while I don't blame you all for hesitating after a real villain attack during your first week. You all will learn to hesitate less in the future or else."
"Midoriya stop throwing yourself into danger to help others, I realize you are strong but your reckless abandon or better worded rather lack of self preservation will get you killed one day. That being said you acted rationally and saved several lives throughout the USJ, so keep it up but add a bit of moderation."
"Bakugo, you quickly handled all the threats in the area before moving on to secure the enemies most valuable piece, while they did escape that was correct threat assessment. Your instincts are good, just lose a bit of the pride."
"Kirishima, Ojiro, Koda. You made a good call turtling up and forcing the enemy to come to you."
"Tokoyami and Yaoyorozu, good use of both of your quirks. You effectively and quickly routed the enemy with near no danger to yourselves. That being said Yaoyorozu I can see the problem child is rubbing off on you, don't let it progress further. You recklessly threw yourself into the ring with the three most dangerous people on the scene, you are only a student as well. Tokoyami good call going to secure the stairs which were everyone's escape route as well as going to check on your fellow classmates as well as distancing yourself from the enemies."
"Shinsou, Asui, good use of each other's quirks to escape in the safest manner possible. As well as your decision to avoid combat, they're a few in this class that need to learn that lesson."
"Jirou, Kaminari, good use of each other's quirk to escape. Kaminari you showed restraint in not firing your strong blast until Jirou was out of the way, that being said try and find a way so you don't hit your allies in the future but that was adequate for now. Jirou good job using your quirk to remain hidden from further villains while protecting Kaminari."
"Everyone who was left on the staircase, good job keeping Thirteen safe as well as opening a path for Iida to escape and alert the teachers. That was the best possible choice you could have made."
"Todoroki good use of your quirk to neutralize the threats in your environment but you did not check for allies and it has come to my attention that even though she couldn't be seen Hagakure was there, practice restraint in the future. Hagakure good job avoiding combat, your quirk is perfect for stealth after all. Oh by the way, Todoroki, you, I, and the principal are having a meeting after school ends today."
Todoroki grimaced he knew this was coming, while the rest of the class just ooe'd and aww'd before Eraserhead activated his quirk silencing the class.
"Second matter for the day, the battle for all of you hasn't really ended yet." Aizawa said with what Izuku thought was a smirk.
Multiple people behind him were shouting something about the villains being back before Aizawa shut them up again.
Aizawa continued. "The U.A. Sports festival is coming up. You would be wise not to waste this chance, you only get three after all. This is a chance to show yourselves off to the world, earn internships and connections that will affect your popularity as a hero. You have two weeks to prepare it is advised you do not waste them." He paused seeing Jirous hand raise in the back.
"Sensei is it wise to continue with the sports festival? That sounds like the perfect thing for the villains to attack." Some of the class nodding as she said that.
"I was of the same opinion however the school believes that it is best that we continue on with the Sports Festival to show the world that one villain attack is not enough to scare the school. Rest assured Jirou as well as the rest of you we will have over five times the normal amount of security." Aizawa said reassuringly. "As I was saying this is basically the event that replaced the Olympics, these will be watched not just in Japan but worldwide. The top heroes in this country will be watching, make sure you impress them." He finished before crawling back into his sleeping bag for the rest of homeroom.
Izuku realized his teacher still had regeneration but wasn't using it. On his way out he went to talk to him about it. "Hey Sensei, I left you Regenerate for a reason."
The sleeping bag jiggled before opening. "Here take it, I don't have enough lipids to use it."
Izuku realized that the man could just eat more food to make it work but assumed his teacher had a reason, so he took his quirk back before realizing he's at 11 quirks now. The low hum of pain on his brain was blaring, training for the future Izuku supposed. Maybe he could finally break past his limit.
Todoroki was being led to the principal's office in silence, he was going to be expelled he knew it. Why couldn't he do what Izuku was doing. Why was he so weak, no he wasn't weak Izuku was. He's the one who can't win with his own power. But was that really right? It was his wasn't it? Todoroki was so confused that he didn't even realize that he had already been sat down and was being talked too.
Principal Nezu continued. "Todoroki- Todoroki we are speaking to you."
He broke out of his thoughts."I'm sorry I was thinking."
The mouse continued."That is fine, I'm sure you have a lot to think about regarding everything that transpired this last friday. I'm sure you realize why you are here."
"I do but why am I the only one. Hagakure said it herself she did nothing during that whole attack, at least I tried to help."
"While you do raise a fine point there is a difference Hagakure is going to be an underground hero focusing on stealth and recon, on top of that it is only the first week. Her fear is to be expected and can be worked on. You on the other hand, were able to fight off that fear and fight, which is commendable however it also revealed the depths to which you refuse to use your quirk. If you were a pro and out on patrol you would have let a civilian die rather than use your quirk. That is rather alarming. I'm sure you can see the situation your teacher is in because you refused to use it." The rat gestured to the mummified teacher.
"We want to help you, but you have to tell us why you are refusing to use your quirk."
Todoroki hesitated, he couldn't deny it. His hatred of his father is holding him back, maybe they would help him. (Little did he know the only reason he was still in the hero course was because Izuku had already told the Principal what Todoroki had told Izuku.)
"...It's hard to say, lets just say that the quirk I have isn't from the best person." Todoroki was sulking at this point.
"So it's true then, we have been monitoring the Todoroki household for awhile is it true that Enji Todoroki beats and abuses his family?" The mouse trying to coax the truth out of the boy himself.
Todoroki was shook, they knew? Did Midoriya tell them? "How? I thought his legal team had covered everything."
The mouse just smiled. "I didn't know for sure until you just confirmed it. I do not possess an IQ of over 200 for show, what other reason could make you so tepid in the use of your quirk unless you had negative memories and experiences of said quirk."
Damn it Todoroki had just been played. "Well I can't hide it anymore." He then went on to explain what his trashcan of a father had done to him and his family.
Aizawa while appearing calm and collected was absolutely furious, his anger and disappointment toward his student had long since disappeared. Aizawa was still angry at a Todoroki but the name Shouto had been replaced by Enji. Aizawa spoke first. "Todoroki you will not be punished for your actions at the USJ but you will be expected to use your fire eventually. Just go back to the dorms and rest, we will handle this."
Todoroki got up and left quietly.
Nedzu spoke once Todoroki had left the room. "It seems Izuku was correct, Todoroki's actions were a result of abuse and not one he would have made normally. I will have a few heroes I know and trust begin to watch the Todoroki house as well as begin drawing up legal contracts in order to deal with Enji. It's been awhile since i've had to thoroughly crush someone, oh what fun this is going to be."
Aizawa was deeply unsettled by the smile and was just glad it wasn't being aimed at him. "Well I'll leave it to you then Nedzu." The second Aizawa closed the door he swore he heard cackling from behind the door, he just did his best to ignore it.
