"I will never agree," Mrs. Zimmerman replied without even thinking, "Stop daydreaming."
"Why?" Scarlett Zimmerman didn't wait for her mother to answer before asking another question, "Just because he is Anna Ainsworth's ex-husband? Just because Jeremy Thompson and Anna are getting married?"
"What about you, then? Why are you so insistent on being with Connor Osborne?" Mrs. Zimmerman shot back, "Don't you know that being with Connor would make your dad feel embarrassed? Besides, Connor doesn't have a very good reputation in Bay City now, none of the daughters from rich families are willing to marry him."
"Because Connor is good to me," Scarlett looked at her mother seriously as she spoke, "Mum, as you said, I'm no longer a little girl. I'm a thirty-year-old spinster. They say, 'A man at thirty is like a flower in bloom, but a woman at thirty is like a wilted flower of yesterday.'"
