"Mom? Do you think I need to beg Jane Sampson?" Julie Sampton sounded as though she'd just heard the most absurd joke in the world.
"She's the foster daughter of the Sampton Family. She ate from our house, lived in our house, and now it's time for her to repay the Sampton Family. She has no reason and no right to refuse."
"But..." Mother Sampton was just about to say something on Jane's behalf, but Julie interrupted her directly.
"Mom, I wasn't by your side when I was little. Back then, I never asked you for anything. So, this time, I'm begging you." As Julie spoke, her eyes turned red. She lowered her head and stroked her belly. "Mom, the child in my belly is also your granddaughter. Could you bear to watch my child be born without a father and be ridiculed as a bastard?"
Tears rolled down Julie's face, drop by drop, piercing Mother Sampton's heart. Everything she had wanted to say in defense of Jane was forgotten in an instant.
