I woke up the next morning to the sound of Woofie whimpering. I opened my eyes and saw her sitting by my bed, her tail tucked between her legs.
"What's wrong, girl?" I asked, my voice still thick with sleep.
She whined again, nudging my hand with her wet nose. I sat up and rubbed her head, my mind still fuzzy with sleep.
"It's okay, Woofie," I said, my voice soft and reassuring. "I'm here."
She licked my hand, her tail wagging happily. I smiled, my heart swelling with love for my furry friend. She was probably worried about me. I hid under the covers to cry over Sir Wolfgango's leaving us, but she had probably heard it. Dogs had good ears.
I slid out of bed and stretched. I looked around the room, my eyes adjusting to the morning light filtering through the window.
"Let's get the day started! Gonna help Mama farm! Think you can help?"
