Chapter 135
Quiet Traps
My task today was supposed to be simple. It was to assist the doctor.
I'd done this countless times before. Just now it was different hospitals, different corridors, but same rhythm. And yet, somehow, even familiarity had a way of turning hostile when certain people were involved.
Monica arrived mid-morning, sweeping into the ward like she owned it. Her steps were confident, her posture practiced like someone who believed the hospital functioned around her presence. The moment she saw me, her gaze sharpened.
"Oh, it's you again," she said lightly, lips curving. "So you're actually working today? I thought you'd just be standing around, pretending to know what you're doing."
I kept my calm, not letting her words pierce the armor I'd built around myself. "I'm here to assist, Monica. That's all."
