Chapter 64 - Plane Crash

On the road, Scott and Dan were in the car ready to head back to Sunshine Valley. However, agent Dan wanted to head to the plane crash site as this might give the FBI some evidence of who the culprit really is. Although they were heading to the site, it might take a long time due to how far the site really is compared to the motel they were staying in.

"This feels weird. We are supposed to head back to Sunshine Valley, but we are driving farther from it because we want to investigate the crash?"

"That's right Scott, I think wherever the police took John was probably really far from the town."

"But why so far?"

"Beats me."

While driving past the vacant town of Bennard, Scott and Dan couldn't believe this was the third town that they drove by that was vacant with many missing posters in every corner.

"This is the third town we passed and there are no residents in any one of them. Don't you think this could be caused by what is happening to the town?"

"I don't know. But with how much we've been through, it could be a possibility. I also figured out that many people near the town have gone missing, especially when it comes to children."

"Children? Why those people in general?"

"Not sure, Scott, but if we get to the plane crash, I think we can use what we observe right now to build up to this case."

While looking out of the window, Scott has witnessed a person.

[On Top of a Church]

"Oh my God." Scott looked.

"She's gonna jump!" Scott screamed.

The women took a leap off the church building.

With all the strength in his legs, Scott got out of the moving car and ran towards the woman before she could reach the ground.

"I'm coming!" Scott yelled.

However, seconds before Scott made it to the front of the church door, the woman fell straight to her death with the street breaking her neck and blood coming from the head.

"No." Scott is feeling upset.

"I'm so sorry. Why would you do something like this?"

While Scott looked around his surroundings, he suddenly heard a clicking noise.

"What did you do?" A man's voice was heard behind him.

"If you dare move, I got a revolver aimed straight at your head if you don't tell me what you did to my wife." A man, wearing nothing but his underwear, aimed a 44 magnum at Scott's head.

"Listen sir, I had nothing to do with your wife. She just committed suicide. I tried to stop her, but I couldn't in time."

"LIAR! You must be the same person who kidnapped seven children in 2015!"

"What?" Scott questions.

"You heard me you little fuck head. A person who looks similar to you kidnapped my children in the middle of the night and not even the police can find them."

"I'm sorry."

"No you're not! So tell me. WHAT DID YOU DO!"

Suddenly, the guy was shot in the leg, dropping the revolver.

"Pick up that gun and I bet you this next bullet will not feel great." Agent Dan pointing his glock at the man.

"GOD DAMN IT!" the man grieving in pain.

"All I want is to see my family again. Is it really that hard to ask for?"

"What are you talking about sir? Are you the only person in this town?"

"Yes. I am. Now I am the only one. I waited because I thought I could in my diligence find my three children, but six years later, I gave up hope. I wanted to reproduce with my wife, but due to her menopause, we had no hopes of having another child."

"I guess that's why she killed herself." Agent Dan whispered to himself.

"It wasn't only my kids, but the other children in this neighborhood have also gone missing too. People were afraid that their younger children might be the next victims, so they had no choice but to leave the state."

"Wait, Dan, didn't we pass two towns that had missing posters about children?"

"Come to think of it, I think we did Scott, but most of them are in the age range of a teenager, mostly ages of fourteen to eighteen."

Agent Dan asked the man. "Sir, in this town, are the missing children usually teenagers?"

"Yes. My three children, each in high school, were kidnapped. My oldest son was in his last year and I can't believe that he was kidnapped the day before school. The next week, my second youngest son was then taken with his bag left on the ground. Finally, my youngest son, the beginning of his first year, was taken from me. I have no hope in this world. I don't know where they are. I just assume that they are now either grown up and missing or dead since the police can't do shit." The man is in pain while crying about his wife and boys.\

"This seems weird. Kids were being kidnapped? Does this have to do with the investigation you're currently undergoing?"

"I think so. The FBI did mention that people around Sunshine Valley had been going missing. I think this is what they were talking about." Agent Dan then went back to the car.

"Where are you going?" Scott said.

"We are heading to the crash site. We currently have more information about the descriptions of the people who they are kidnapping. Now the crash site will be the final straw." Agent Dan called and then hung up the phone.

"Hurry up Scott. That guy will be fine, so I called the ambulance. They'll probably heal the guys bullet wound and help put his wife in a coffin"

"Sure." Scott left the man injured.

"Yeah you better drive off!" The man on the ground was still feeling pain from the bullet wound.

On the road, Agent Dan ruminates to himself thinking about the town they drove by.

"So, the kidnappings are based on...…Teenagers?" Agent Dan thought to himself.

"There is no doubt that John is most likely the culprit."

Agent Dan looked at Scott, seeing that he might not be able to fully grasp the situation he is in.

"Scott, do you read any books or graphic novels that are based on celestial beings?"

"Like Zeus or Odin?"

"Well kind of, but if they were evil."

"To be honest, I don't think they are real. But if they are, then we are probably fucked." Scott said in a calm tone.

Agent Dan started sweating, knowing that John is probably somebody that he doesn't understand.

While driving for most of the day, they passed by many empty towns with a lot of missing posters everywhere. However, as they drive farther from Sunshine Valley, it seems that the residences of the towns they pass by seem normal with little to no missing posters.

While passing by many towns, they passed one that Scott is already familiar with.

[Des Moines]

Passing by the familiar streets that he was exiled at, Scott quickly reclined the seat to hide himself from the residence.

"Is something the matter, Scott?" Agent Dan looked at Scott.

"Nothing. Just keep on driving." Scott said in a quick pace.

"What's wrong with that kid?" Agent Dan thought to himself.

It was now the evening and Agent Dan and Scott both stopped by a shawarma joint near a motel.

Agent Dan was eating his chicken shawarma, knowing that they have a lot to do the next day. However, Scott didn't even get a chance to sip his soda, remembering his past in Des Moines.

"Hey kid, your shawarma is going to get cold. Hurry and eat it before it gets stale." Agent Dan sees Scott's wary face.

"What's wrong, Scott? Is it because of the town we recently passed by?"

"Yeah. I can't stop thinking of the time where I got me and my Mom exiled because of my anger. I tried to hold it, but that stupid captain just couldn't stop talking shit about one of my teammates. I had to do something. He was about to bully a freshman. What was I supposed to do? Let him beat that kid and not suffer any consequences?"

"I know what you would do."

"What is that?"

"Just forget about it."

"What?" Scott questions.

"Yeah, forget about it. Like this shit you keep mentioning to me happened like a year ago. Why are you still dwelling on being exiled from your old residency?"

"Because I messed up and wanted to have a second chance in life. For most….."

"Scott, you told me this like a bunch of times already. Why are you still dwelling on this even though it happened almost a year ago?" Agent Dan tries to snap him out of his past.

"I don't know. Maybe this is something that has been in my mind for a long time."

"Well kid, I don't know what you are thinking right now, but I think you'll find your way." Agent Dan continued to eat his shawarma.

Later at night, while Dan is sleeping, Scott looks at himself, seeing why this has been a huge bother even though it has been a long time ago.

Scott walked outside to look at the stars.

"Dad, I don't know where you are in this world, but I wanted to ask you. Why do I still think about what happened in Des Moines? Me and mom came to Sunshine Valley for a better opportunity, but I can't stop thinking about the past. So why?"

However, the star's lights just disappeared before the glimpse of his eyes.

"I knew I shouldn't ask you. You left me and mom because of me. I knew I was a mistake the day I developed anger issues." Scott was disappointed when walking back to his room.

The next day, Scott and Agent Dan were having breakfast at the diner across the shawarma joint.

"Okay Dan, what's the plan?"

"We're pretty close to the crash site. It's about thirty minutes from here, so I suggest you be ready to investigate the crash site."

"So what do you want me to do?"

"Be my intern since when we first met. I want you to help me investigate the whole plane, since it is a passenger plane."

"Sure." Scott eating his scrambled eggs.

Back on the road, Scott and Dan were getting closer to the crash site. However, it seems that the closer they get there, the more police blockaded the road from the crash site.

"Really, police? I mean I haven't seen one since the day I came to Sunshine Valley?" Scott looks disappointed.

"Don't worry, I got this." Agent Dan then approached the police officers.

"Excuse me sir, this road is off limits until the investigation is finished."

"No worries officer. I'm agent F5 from the FBI and I'm here to investigate the ongoing case of the plane crash caused by the terrorists in this area." Agent Dan showing his badge.

"Sorry sir, right this way." The officer let Dan pass through.

Suddenly, the same officer stopped him.

"Wait a minute. Who's that kid next to you?"

"Isn't it obvious? He's my intern, his job is basically taking pictures and gathering evidence for our research team."

"You don't say. Well then, carry on." The officer then lets Dan and Scott pass by.

"The Hell?" Scott looked at the officer from the front view mirror.

"Why did he think I wasn't associated with you?"

"I think it's because of your attire. I'm wearing a formal uniform and you're not, so he was a bit suspicious of you."

"What's wrong with how I look?"

"Nothing, but I wonder why you wear that jacket? I mean do you even wash that thing?"

"I wear it because it reminds me of my Dad. It's the only thing that I remember about him before he left me and my mom."

"I see." Agent Dan looking at the road.

"AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION, I DO WASH MY JACKET!" Scott was annoyed at Agent Dan's question.

Thirty minutes passed and they finally made it to the crash site.

"Here we are." Agent Dan got out of the car.

"Oh my God." Scott looked at the plane crash.

The aftermath of the crash was brutal. The plane's front side was fully disintegrated, burnt luggage was everywhere, broken plane pieces were also everywhere, and dead bodies were either decapitated or burnt from the crash.

"The plane is a lot bigger than I anticipated." Dan looked at the crash with many police tape surrounding the plane.

"How did this happen?" Scott questions.

"Last week, there was an incident where a plane crashed."

"But how?"

"The FBI says that it happened because they think somebody hijacked the plane and crashed to the ground. Our government has been very sensitive about these situations ever since 9-11 and has suspicion on Sunshine Valley since the kidnappings happen near the town."

Scott thought about it.

"It's starting to make sense. While traveling, we've seen towns that had missing posters and traveling farther, they seem to be less frequent."

"Exactly, that's why the FBI sent me here. To investigate the disappearances and I believe John is behind all of this. Because if he can abduct all the parents of the students in Sunshine High, then there would be no surprise that he probably escaped the police and somehow stole the airplane to kidnap those passengers."

"But this is insane. If John hijacked the plane, where would he hijack the plane?"

"My assumption is that if he escaped the police, he would've gone to the Iowa airport and probably expanded his abduction by bringing those passengers and stripping the children's parents and only taking the kids. That is why he would take those parents and imprison them in the sewers."

"From the picture on your phone."

"Exactly! Now if we can tell if this is from John, we can warn the FBI that he's the true culprit and finally take him down."

"Yeah. Let's start this investigation." Scott put on the latex gloves given to him by Dan.

After wearing his latex gloves, Dan looked on the back side of the plane, while Scott looked on the front side of the plane. It took them until the afternoon to investigate the crash site.

"Nothing. You got anything Scott?" Dan looked at Scott at a distance from him.

"Nothing." Scott said.

"Let's keep going then." Agent Dan resumed the investigation.

On Scott's side, there was nothing but rubble with many of the items on the plane already destroyed.

"Damn it, there's nothing here. From the outside of the plane." Scott inside of the plane.

Using the given face mask given by agent Dan, Scott wore it and then headed inside the plane. The inside was a lot of ashes and dead bodies that were left sitting in the passenger seats. Although it disturbed Scott, he kept investigating inside the plane. Although most of the items were damaged, he did managed to obtain one item.

[It was a phone]

It was cracked and its phone case was heavily stuck to the phone from the explosion's flames.

Seeing whether it turns on, surprisingly, it actually did turn on. The phone was half showing only on the right, but it still was able to be controlled by touch screen. However, the phone had a passcode needed to open the phone.

"Dan, I found something." Scott yelled for Dan to come.

"Coming." Agent Dan ran towards Scott.

Coming out of the plane, Scott walked towards Scott with the deformed phone.

"What did you find?"

"A phone. That's all that I can obtain." Scott shows agent Dan the phone.

"Better than nothing."

"The problem is that it's locked. Do you have any gadgets that can override the passcode?"

"Of course we do. Although they think I'm off the case, they did lend me some high-tech that the public doesn't use." Agent Dan ran towards the car.

Coming out of the car, Agent Dan brought in a device that seems like a usb, but able to be plugged in the phone's charging port.

Plugging it in, the passcode was overridden and then was sent to the homescreen.

"Nice." Scott looked at the phone.

Suddenly, there was a notification indicating voicemails and one voice recording.

Scott went to the voicemail, but never knew that there were hundreds of them. Scott heard this when he opened one of them.

"Shiad, where are you? Are you okay? We heard the news that your plane crashed?! Please be okay."

The voicemail then ended.

Scott looked at the other voicemails, with many of the passengers' loved ones being very worried.

"My God." Scott in shock.

Hesitantly, Scott went towards the voice recording to see what it was about.

[When he opened the recording, he was in shock]

"If anyone finds this, a child with some sort of blonde hair and yellow jacket hijacked the plane. This is for my family. I'm sorry I won't live to see my kids grow up. I'm sorry I can't be a better husband to my wife. For my friends, please take care of my family well. I know I will die but I hope Allah will be there for me. May peace be with my family. Allah a bar."

The voice recording ended with a big explosion.

"Damn it. He had a family." Scott dropped the phone.

"Wait, the guy said a guy with blonde hair and a yellow jacket. That's the same description as John; there's no doubt that now he's the terrorist."

"But it can't be. It probably was another teen…" Scott then stepped on a burnt fabric.

Picking it up, he was familiar with the fabric that he mostly sees.

"Do you believe me now?" Agent Dan looked at the fabric with Scott.

"I…..believe you now." Scott looked at the fabric as it had a "SH" logo.
