Hearing the knock, Edward Anderson quickly turned his head, and the light in his eyes dimmed when he saw Randy Hill enter the room.
"It's too late. Miss Scott said she would come to see Mr. Anderson another day and went home to take care of her child tonight," Randy Hill lied through his teeth.
Edward's thin lips parted slightly: "Really?"
Randy's lie wasn't very clever. Edward knew Bella Scott well. He expected her reluctance to see him, but somewhere deep down, he still cherished some hope for a miracle to happen.
"Miss Scott has been a bit busy lately. She'll be fine once she's done with her work," Randy added.
Edward picked up his suit and left the Cherden Hotel without saying anything more.
It was eleven o'clock at night. Thinking back to Bella Scott's beaming smile, Edward felt somewhat relieved.
