Chapter 3 - Theories, Theories, Theories

Bubbles decided to speak up, "You can't send one of us home! I mean, we just got here! Even if it wasn't the first day, that isn't fair!"

"Oh, and you think natural disasters are? Or power-hungry villains? Hm? Or catastrophic accidents that wipe out whole cities? No, the world is full of unfairness. It's a hero's job to try to combat that unfairness. If you want to be a pro, you're gonna have to push yourself to the brink. For the next three years, U.A. will throw one terrible hardship after another at you. So, go beyond. Plus-Ultra-style."

He beckoned them forward with a finger to make a point, "Show me it's no mistake that you're here."

A few of the students prepared.

"Now, then. We're just wasting time by talking. Let the games begin."

Daitan'na POV:

'Test 1: 50 meter Dash'

At the blow of a whistle, Iida and a girl who resembles a frog get ready.

A machine with a polite voice says, "Runners, on your marks. Ready—"

Then a gunshot is heard and they run off.

I cringed a little at the sound, I hated my super hearing sometimes.

I raise a brow at Iida's speed, "Hm, looks like his power is true to the Iida family's reputation. I'd noticed the engines, but I didn't know how fast he could go," I muttered to myself.

The measuring device marked his time, he was faster, "3.04 seconds."

The girl against him, finished in 5.58 seconds, which is very impressive.

Bubbles—I'd named in my head—went next as she tapped her clothes, something about lightening them.

That's a smart tactic. But it seems she might not be able to directly use her quirk on herself, I'll have to pay more attention before I can be sure.

Then I glanced at the male going against her.

He seemed to have a gigantified lion tail, which could be beneficial if he uses it well.

The boy ended up getting 5.49 seconds, while Bubbles finished with 7.15 seconds.

Next was a very prim-looking boy with a wide belt on his waist, he seemed to know French.

Hopefully, we can get along, I can speak French, too, so that would be nice.

He was going against a girl with pink hair and horns.

He seemed to brag some, before jumping in the air at the starting mark and flying backward by a sparkling beam.

"Let your powers shine!"

But then, the laser thinned out...

And he fell.

Letting her pass him. He stood up, but the thin laser only shot him that much farther.

5.51 seconds.

"Hm. Shooting my beautiful beam for more than a second hurts my tummy."

Only a second? Shouldn't his body be adapted to his quirk enough to last a little longer than that at his age? How did he pass the entrance exam?

Next was Midoriya and Bakugo, considering all I've gathered about them are snippets of their outer personalities and a small display of Bakugo's power…I don't know which quirk is stronger than the other, but a speed test alone can't determine this.

"Runners, on your marks. Ready—"

The gunshot went off.

Bakugo barked out, "Burst speed!"

Explosions are really fitting for him.

He used short explosions propel forward, finishing in 4.13 seconds.

"Hm, he's tactical. I'll have to look out for him."

Midoriya made it in 7.02 seconds.

Looks like his quirk isn't suitable for running—which is understandable, considering not every quirk can be adapted, sometimes it can be specific and only be used specifically.

Bakugo looked at his hands as smoke thinly died out, "My power has more uses than anyone else's in this school."

I watched as Midoriya gasped for breath, sweating bullets.

He looks...worried? Iida said something about him doing something during the exam that seemed to be amazing by his tone. Is he worried about the expulsion?

But it seemed after a minute his face was filled with newfound determination.

And then it was my turn, I was up against a short boy with grape-like hair...who was looking at me too much for my liking.

"I'm guessing you're a lace type of girl. Can I see if my guess was right?" he drooled a little at the thought.

"Excuse me, this isn't 'The Price is Right'," I tied my hair up into a ponytail, "I don't appreciate you talking to me like that, it's disrespectful."

"Oh, I can be disrespectful, all right."

"Racers on your mark. Ready—"

The gunshot went off.

"Matter Blast," with the blast I leaped up, landing right on the finish line.

"3.20 seconds!"

The disrespectful grape boy arrived a few seconds or so after me.

'Test 2: Grip Strength'

The grip strength scores varied.

Midoriya got a score of 56 kg.

Another boy, who was tall and wore a mask could do 540 kg, I think I heard the name Shoji float around earlier.

If we were to ever spar, he definitely has strength over me—that and more appendages.

"...Like a muscle-y octopus," I tuned in to the last of what someone said.

Soon it was my turn, I decided last minute I wouldn't use my quirk to adjust the matter of my muscles and just use my natural strength to push myself more.

My score was 66 kg, which wasn't too bad.

"Woah, that's a pretty impressive grip you've got!"

My eyes flicked toward the voice and were greeted by a boyish smile of teeth that were quite sharp.

I smiled in return, passing it to him, "Thank you, takes lots of training."

His forearm flexes as he squeezes the machine, "Huh. 78 kg isn't bad—I'm Eijiro Kirishima, by the way!"

"Daitan'na Hitsuji, nice to meet you."

'Test 3: Standing long jump'

Bakugo, the shiny man, and a few others finished easily.

While...Midoriya...

…Didn't even make it halfway.

I decided not to use my quirk for this one, too, to test my natural strength. I jumped a little early and my toes just hit the other end, luckily I had good balance and steadied myself doing a Michael Jackson.

My gaze trailed over a few students observing me, Bakugo, a boy with two-toned hair, and a taller girl who looked much more approachable. But I've been observing everyone too, more so the ones I should be looking out for, but I don't underestimate anyone.

'Test 4: Repeated side steps'

The grape boy from before seemed to be in his element, easily executing this.

Despite my training to hold my breath longer, I didn't want to use my Quirk when it wasn't necessary—I also wanted to make it more challenging—so I completed it on my own, my legs are pretty fast without my Quirk.

'Test 5: Ball Throw'

Bubbles went up, tossing her ball, it flew...and flew...and...flew?

Mr. Aizawa showed us the screen on his phone, the infinity symbol was shown. (Spitting bars)

Everyone of course went crazy about this.

I can tell these students are excitable and so easily. But they're just regular kids, so there's only so much of this they can take seriously…until inevitably this class faces a true danger that sobers them up, hopefully, but not all at once, that'd mess them up.

"If Midoriya doesn't shape up soon, he's the one going home," Iida crosses his arms.

Bakugo turned to him, irritated, it seemed as he pointed at the boy, "Huh? Of course, he is, he's a Quirkless loser."

Iida furrowed his brows in confusion, "He has a Quirk. Did you not hear about what he did in the entrance exam?"

That's strange, Bakugo seems so sure he doesn't have a Quirk, but he did during the entrance exam...what's going on? It's not like someone could just magically get a Quirk—wait...I'll have this play out to test my new theory...

I turned my gaze to Midoriya as he stood there, possibly deciding how to use his Quirk. I assume he has one considering he's in the hero course, he must have something of a Quirk that could complete the test enough for him to get accepted.

Midoriya was about to throw, with my hearing I heard a power form, my sharp vision allowing me to see it start to manifest in his hand and arm. I also noticed Mr. Aizawa was about to activate his Quirk...but why?

What's special enough about Midoriya to have this much revolved around him?

The ball pathetically fell to the ground, bouncing a few times before the distance was called out.

"Fourty-six meters."

"What gives? I was trying to use it just now," Midoriya looked at his hands in horror.

Trying to use it? It sounds like he's barely used his Quirk before...maybe he hasn't. Bakugo said he didn't have a Quirk, which means he knew him before U.A. to feel confident enough about that. But Iida said he had a Quirk at the Exam. Could his Quirk...possibly be new to him? This is starting to feel too close to my theory, I'd rather be right or I'll have to assume it's something much worse.

"I erased your Quirk," Mr. Aizawa clarified, as his capture weapon flew around him.

"The judges for this exam were not rational enough. Someone like you should never be allowed to enroll at this school."

"Wait, you did what to my—" Midoriya froze, finally putting the pieces together of our teacher's pro-hero identity, "Ah! Those goggles. I know you! You can look at someone and cancel out their powers. The Erasure Hero: Eraser Head!"

The class seemed to be confused. Obviously most only know a few heroes, more than likely the big-shots or heroes who're ranked.

The girl who resembles a frog spoke up, "Oh, I think I've heard of him. I think he works on the down-low."

I agreed, "Yes, he doesn't participate in hero rankings or things with celebrity heroes, so he's less known by the public, which works in favor of his career."

My eyes narrowed, suddenly feeling a familiar presence, I tuned out the voices around me, saving it for me to subconsciously remember later, and trailed my eyes over the area.

I could see the electromagnetic energy of everyone and everything.

My eyes stopped trailing when I noticed him, Mr. Yagi—All Might. Why is he here? It isn't because of me.

Then he met my eyes, which gave him a disappointed look.

He awkwardly waved at me, not expecting his towering form to be seen hiding behind a wall several feet away.

I mouthed to him, 'Why are you watching us?'

He spoke in a whisper but knew I could hear him from the distance, "Long story. We'll talk about it later."

"Hm," and at that, I turned back just to see Mr. Aizawa letting Midoriya go.

"I've returned your impractical Quirk. Take your final throw. Hurry and get it over with," he walked away giving him room.

Some students talked among themselves, wondering what Mr. Aizawa said. As I subconsciously flashed through the conversation, more pieces of my puzzle came together.

"I've got one shot at nailing this. So what am I going to do?" I heard Midoriya whisper.

Only one shot? He really can't control his Quirk, it's obvious that it's new to him.

Midoriya prepared to throw, my eyes widened as he focused all the power into a single finger at the last second.

I let out a soft laugh, "This kid...is interesting."

"Smaaaash!"

It flew into the air, the wind blowing around us from the force.

The ball landed.

Midoriya spoke through gritted teeth, fighting the obvious pain he had from the now-broken finger, "Mr. Aizawa. You see? I'm still standing."

"Well, this year will be quite interesting indeed," I grinned.
