Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

After I asked that question, there was a moment of silence

"Uhm... Sure," he responded.

"Really, because I'm feeling a little hesitation in that 'Uhm... Sure," I told him.

"I'm serious, I'll get the others to build a wall," he assured.

"... I guess I'll have to take you're word for it then. See you in a few hours," I said turning around.

After leaving with my group, all of us equipped with small knives, we scouted the forest for animals.

I could sense that there was a small pack of animals nearby and decided that my group would first identify what the animal could be.

After moving forward, for what could be a few hundred meters we noticed a group of wild boars feasting on the grass.

"So, I'll be honest with you. I brought you here to help me carry the meat and identify animals but I'll be doing the killing. You're going to be positioned around the area to distract the beasts. Other than that, just watch and help out if anything goes wrong, Understood."

"Yep," x6

"Good, surround them but leave an open path for them to escape," I ordered.

"I thought we were hunting them," Atom inquired, most likely confused by what I told everyone.

"We are, I assure you," I confirmed.

"Then why are we creating a path for them to escape?" he questioned once more.

"I'll explain after this is over,"

After the other members of the group settled into their respective positions, Preston made a noise to startle the flock.

The outcome was as planned, every boar tried to make a run for their lives towards the only place that did not include human presence, allowing our main character to single out two of the animals among the weaker members of the flock.

He ran toward the creatures with his small knife and pierced the ear of the first boar.

The second one was still trying to get away, but the male hunter grabbed its hind legs to slow it down, and quickly slammed its head down with a strong slam before finally piercing its eyes.

It was truly gruesome, yet effective considering the thick hides and robust skulls, these creatures possessed.

After taking the boars and giving one of them to Atom and Carl, the team leader left towards camp along with the rest of the group.

On his way there, he purposefully lead the group astray multiple times in hopes of finding the desired area.

Finally, after what could be considered an eternity, he stumbled upon a large medium clearing, with sparse trees.

He smiled now that he had the general area taken care of.

That night, Preston was planning on not only saving Pascal and Trina for recognition but was also going to pin down the exact location of the bunker's hatch.

To arm most of the populace. Of course, some people receiving firearms were out of the question. But he didn't exactly know who they were.

'I guess I'll discover in due time," he thought.

He then lead everyone, including the game they'd hunted, towards the exodus ship.

It was almost night, the recovery team that I sent to retrieve Jasper could arrive any minute now.

Oh, there they are.

Lifting Jasper's unconscious body and a dead panther with the help of the parachutes.

I could hear some of the crowd cheering them on.

This was good, it meant that despite the shift in personnel, things went rather smoothly.

"You found Jasper, great! Bring him in the drop ship for Clarke to take care of him," I said rather cheerfully before ordering them once more.

I then announced to the entirety of the delinquents.

"We have two boars that our hunting party managed to catch along with the panther that Finns retrieval team killed."

"Now that we finally have a decent amount of food, let's prepare it and enjoy,"

Some volunteered to do the cooking and I decided to let them do so, they did manage to cook a panther in the actual series so that should somewhat prove their reliability.

Once that was done, I left although after discreetly glancing at the emotional source that stood out from the rest.

It was a grounder, his emotions were a mix of caution and curiosity, which stood in contrast really well with the happiness I felt from the people I currently led.

But knowing that he would commit no harm towards us yet, I ignored him in favor of leaving in the direction of a certain area of the forest.

An area in which I could sense growing fear, despair and pain.

It was time for me to hurry up and get my targets out of that place and in camp as soon as possible.
