The voice did not answer him this time, leaving Kui with nothing but a gamble.
Biting his lips, he stared at the huge red gem for another moment before finally reaching out and pulling it from the wall.
He half expected the whole place to crumble down on top of him, but strangely, nothing happened. The water around him remained still, and the passage did not collapse.
Kui waited for a few more seconds, just to be certain, before finally letting out the breath he had been holding and swimming back into the water.
"Kui! Kui, where are you?"
Aok's voice suddenly screamed through his mind, making Kui wince and immediately pat the side of his head. The mer sounded genuinely panicked.
"Aok, I'm fine. Just swim towards the end of the passage," Kui replied, hoping that would be enough to calm him down.
"You wait right there for me. Do not move! Do not do anything else, got it?" Aok commanded through their thoughts.
Kui frowned.
Being told what to do was definitely not his thing.
