I watched Zade disappear.
The crowd of dancers swallowed him whole as he walked off with Killian. I could still picture the tension in his shoulders, the way his hands curled into fists at his sides. Whatever that conversation was going to be, it wasn't friendly. Zade didn't hide anger well.
And suddenly, I was left sitting alone at the table with Kayla and Chris.
I swallowed thickly, unsure where to look. Kayla wasn't even pretending to smile now. She sat gracefully, legs crossed, her perfectly manicured fingers adjusting her hair over one shoulder as she glanced toward Chris. Her expression was unreadable. Not cold, not warm—just… calculated.
