Chapter 8 - [8-The Examination]

After finishing the exam, I was told to wait in the room behind the inspector

After entering the room, I see that there are at least 30-40 copy's of only 3 different books, the first one was called 'Dungeons Handbook : Beginner's Edition' the second one was called 'Dungeons Handbook : Intermediate Edition' and the final book was called 'Dungeons Handbook : Expert Edition'

After seeing all the options, I decided that I should start with the beginners book, and then eventually get to the next books.

After picking a book, I sat down and began to read, the first book wasn't that long, I would probably be able to finish it in only a few minutes..

After waiting in the room for a few minutes and reading up on dungeons, what I understood was that dungeons are randomly generated each time you enter one, except for one room, the 'Traders Room' it will always generate in every dungeon, inside of that room there is a desk, and a man, the man wears a long white robe that covers his face, once you enter the room no monsters can attack you, and if you try to talk to the man(nicknamed the 'Shopkeeper') a floating page made of his magic appears, on that page he shows all the items he sells, and you can buy the items from him in 2 ways, either buying it with money, or by trading him another item for his.

Other than the Shopkeeper, I also found out that there are occasionally hidden rooms and secret events and enemies that are sometimes even harder than the boss itself, but in return, the items they give can be exponentially better than most other items from other enemies, maybe even the boss.

And then I learned is that there is usually atleast 1 puzzle room, if you complete that puzzle, you get access to lots of hidden loot, but in return, if you fail the puzzle you set off a deadly trap, capable of killing you, and if you die I. The dungeon, not even your body can be recovered, the reason for this is that people can only enter alone, unless they join a party.

The last thing I learned is that in most cases dungeons don't show up on man made structures, although, in the case that a high level dungeon is being formed, it can create itself anywhere, no matter what it destroys during its creation.

Right after finishing the book, they called me into a open area behind the building, a training ground of sorts.

After being gestured to walk to the wooden dummy, I begin to walk and stop about 5 meters away, and just then, the dummy begins to rattle and shake..

And then the dummy moved it's head and locked onto me, when I tried to move, the dummy's head followed.

Just then I heard the voice of the man that was at the registration desk coming from what felt like the sky, as it spoke it said-

'Hello there future adventurer, this is your first test, it is a test of how well you can fight the equivalent of a C- rank monster.'

'With that, your examination will begin in 5, 4…'

As he begins to count down, I instantly activate flash, it only takes about 1 second for it to activate, so I'll still have about 3 seconds to prepare…

Right after activating haste I go to grab my dagger.

Right after grabbing my dagger, I still have about 2 seconds, right after that, I begin to listen to the voice counting down once again-

'2… Go!'

(What?!, why didn't he finish the countdown?!)

As I'm momentarily stunned by confusion, the dummy begins to dash towards me with what seems to be its equivalent of a hand In position to punch me square in the face.

'If I hadn't activated flash, I wouldn't be able to dodge, but even now with flash, it's still hard to dodge this thing'

After narrowly avoiding the dummy's attack, I counter it with a stab to the back of the neck, and just after the blade made contact with the dummy, it shattered?!

But right after the pieces of the blade met the ground, the dummy began to move back to the position it was in when I got there, it's glowing blue eyes turn lifeless once again.

After it 'deactivated' the same voice began to ring out from the sky, but with a different message this time-

'Congratulations adventurer, you've got the agility to strike the test dummy, you've now passed the test.'

'If your weapon has been broken or damaged, please come through the door to your left, if it wasn't, please come through the door to your right.'

After looking at the pieces of my blade on the floor for a moment, I turn to the left door and walk through.

After entering, I see a man standing in front of me, after inspecting him for a moment, his name tag said, his name was grey, and he specializes in weapons.

After greeting each other Grey tells me to take a look at the weapons and staffs we have here and to tell him if any where of my interest.

After saying that, he gestured for me to lead the way.

With his gesture, I begin to walk forward, pretending to inspect all the staffs while I was actually using appraisal on all of them.

(If I'm gonna be a mage, I should probably have some sort of magic tool, and staffs are the easiest to get)

And so I continued looking through all the staffs, until…

I see a weird book, floating.

(Hmm, that's odd, what's a book got to do with weapons?)

When I walked towards it to appraise it, I was stunned, this thing was a 'grimoire' and it had the best stats by far-

='Appraise'=
