"Have your Prophetess marry my son."
The moment Rehandel said those words, the atmosphere in the chamber could not have turned colder.
The amusement that had lingered around his expression suddenly felt out of place against the silence that followed. Several of the Heads of Sancta Vedelia stared at him as though they were uncertain whether he had genuinely made the proposal or had simply decided to provoke them for his own entertainment.
Harvey was the first to break the silence.
"I hope this is some sort of jest," he said coldly.
Rehandel only smiled.
"Not really. I am offering a solution for our great alliance." He leaned back comfortably in his seat, completely unaffected by the hostility around him. "And worry not. My son will take great care of the Prophetess."
"In that case, I have a better solution."
Reiner spoke up with a smile that was far too pleasant for the circumstances.
"Have your Priestess marry my son instead."
