Chapter 61 - CHAPTER 60: Learning How to Throw Rods To Make Holes In Things

George walked into the forest, about to try to hunt for someone when he remembered.

Do I actually know how to use this?

Do I know how to use a spear?

Moreover, considering that others have metal, whist I have wood, there's no way I should try to have a head-on fight with them.

I sighed deeply.

Having a fair fight was never one of my options anyway. If I can't compete with them in strength, I have no choice but to use tricks. But smarts isn't one of my strong points, so how do I go about this?

I sat down and started to contemplate on what I had

Let's see, I can make wooden spears although they're not strong enough to fight with. What can I use them for despite that?

I thought and thought, but I had never been an intellectual in the first place so I came up with nothing.

In frustration I threw one of the spears at a tree, then my mind clicked and everything fell into place.

"That's it!"

I raced over to the spear I threw and looked at it in excitement.

"I can throw it!"

How did I not think of it? In the first place, I'm not a match for most, possibly all people here in strength but I don't have to fight them up front.

What I need to do is to catch them when they're off guard, that's the only chance I have!

But still, if I can't nail them in one hit or at least seriously injure them, then things are doing to get ugly.

Once that happens, I might just become a goner. To that end, what can I do to make sure that I can escape if I don't kill them.

I looked around at the tall, woody trees and felt the cool temperature.

It's obvious what I can do here! I have all I need, right here around me.

The trees can be used and the dirt can be used, isn't that sufficient enough?

I can attack from the trees so they don't see me, although I doubt that kind of thing would work on people like Philia and Antonio. They're just too freaky.

If I want to make an escape, I can use the trees, but I'm not sure if I'll be athletic enough to pull it off. To top it all of, I'm sort of afraid off heights.

Is this plan feasible? I don't really know, but there's only one way for me to find out.

I walked to a tree and put my hand against the rough bark.

I don't really want to do this, but I don't have time to waste. There's only six days, counting today, left.

I jumped and grabbed the lowest branch and hoisted myself up.

One down, countless more to go.

I didn't let up with the climbing until I had reached a suitable height to test my new approach.

From where I stood, the branch on the opposite tree seemed so far away that I feared just reaching out towards it.

I was at a dizzying height to the normal man, but I tried not for dwell on it and focused on my objective

What I have to do is run from where I am and land on that branch while keeping my balance.

Pretty simple in theory but is a lot more complicated in reality.

Let's do this.

I cracked my hands and loosened my joints by shaking them.

Then I ran and leaped across the space between the two trees.

The wind whistled in my ears as I got closer and closer to my goal and my legs hung in the air.

I crashed into the tree's branch and slipped off the surface I was standing on.

Luckily I was able to grab it just before I fell off. I hoisted myself onto it while gasping.

That took a lot off willpower for me me to do. Do I really have to do this? I don't think my heart can take it.

No, I have to this. It's the only way for me to level the playing field somewhat.

I hardened my resolve and got up. I spent most of the day training going from tree to tree. By the time the sun was setting I was particularly proficient in it.

I walked back to the water and quenched my dry throat. When I was done, I sat by the water and thought of the ramifications of my training.

As long as I keep taking too long, I won't have enough time to learn everything I need.

The sun had dyed the sky red, casting the mirage that the water was crimson, creating the eerie thought that there was blood in it.

All of a sudden, there was a commotion from nearby.

I scrambled to my feet and dashed in the direction of the noise.

With any luck the source of the hubbub will be people.

On my way there, I picked up the spears that I had kept close by and went up a tree like a monkey.

I made my way to my destination in a very little amount of time because of the trees and came to a place where three people, one boy and two girls, were fighting.

I hid behind the trunk of the tree I was in and observed them.

They didn't have any weapons and were fighting barehanded.

After watching for a few minutes, it became clear who was going to win.

Judging by how it was going, the boy was going to be overpowered as he was losing ground bit by bit.

I was going to take advantage of the situation to nail one of them to the ground when I had a brilliant idea.

Why don't I use this situation so I can collect all of them?

What if I hit one of the girls and swoop in, posing as if I'm trying to help the guy while I stab him in the back when we've taken care of the other one?

That might work, but that's if the guy doesn't turn on me and try to take me out instead.

I know it would be suspicious if someone just showed up from nowhere and started to help me. In here? That practically screams suspicious.

Instead of doing that, why don't I scare them off by killing one and acting like some powerful guy?

Yes, that could work. Let's get started.
