"Ten years..." Charles, holding the skull, looked around at the forest that bore not a trace of human life.
The appearance of a human skull here clearly indicated that humans had been to this place. While he had been struggling for life and death in Earth Sea, the Earth's surface was already inhabited by humans.
Had the Foundation come up this early? Or could this skull really belong to someone who lived on the Earth's surface? Perhaps the desolation of the surface was because they had already flown to the skies.
Charles stared at the moss-covered skull before him, his mind swirling with various questions as even more mysteries surfaced.
Seeing no further clues, Charles suppressed the enigmas in his heart.
"Let's go, continue our ascent," Charles said, looking up at the nearly vertical, sloping forest before bending down to throw the skull back onto the mossy ground.
"Captain, shouldn't we take this thing with us?" Deep asked, looking down at the skull.
