One of the serpentine monsters suddenly raised its head as if it sensed something. Its eyes swept around the ruins before finally locking onto Clyde.
For a moment, none of them moved. Then the creature opened its mouth and released a deep, guttural hiss.
Clyde noticed immediately and grinned, "Yeah, you spotted me, bastard."
He did not hesitate. Clyde turned and fled.
The serpent reacted almost instantly. Its long body twisted through the air as it pursued him, its wings beating against the distorted space and sending powerful currents through the surrounding debris.
But none of the other serpents followed. They remained around the crater, watching.
Clyde glanced back briefly. Interesting. It seemed they possessed a certain level of intelligence. One human had appeared, but only one of them had bothered to chase him. Perhaps they considered a single human too insignificant to justify abandoning their territory.
