Chapter 36 - Chapter 36

Daisy & Jeffery

Jeffery drove along the cold, quiet streets of Leo's estate. It was recorded as the largest and most expensive estate in all of New York so massive and opulent, it could pass for a small state. They finally arrived at Daisy's luxurious condominium. "We're here," Jeffery announced, breaking the long silence that had filled the ride.

"Finally," Daisy murmured with a sigh of relief.

"Tired already?" he asked, glancing at her.

Yeah, very. I have some health issues. Long distances or anything remotely stressful gets me exhausted… I tend to faint sometimes," she said softly, looking out the window. Jeffery's expression shifted immediately. "Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't know that. Wait here."

"But—"

Before she could finish, he had already gotten out and rushed to her side of the car. Opening the door like a true gentleman, he surprised her by lifting her into his arms.

Her eyes widened. "Jeff! This isn't necessary I can walk on my own."

"I know you can," he smiled, "but you're tired, remember?" She gave in, resting her head gently on his chest, a small smile forming on her lips. Jeffery chuckled at her softness as he carried her inside and gently placed her on the large velvet couch. "Welcome to your new home," he said, watching her with a proud smile. Daisy slowly opened her eyes and gasped in awe. The interior was breathtaking.

"Is this… where I'll be living?" she asked in disbelief. "Of course. This is one of Leo's properties," Jeffery said casually. "It has just three bedrooms, a spa, a pool, and a kitchen." Her eyes nearly popped out. "Did you just say just?" She looked around, stunned. "Do you even know what this means to me? The apartment Alicia and I lived in is smaller than just this living room."

Jeffery's jaw dropped. "What?"

"I'll forever be grateful to Leo for this. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine something like this. "I understand," Jeffery said softly, smiling. Are you hungry?" he asked, changing the subject. Not really, but a small bite would be nice."

"I'll call the chef to prepare us dinner."

Her eyes widened again. "I have a chef too?"

Jeffery folded his arms and smirked. "Do you even realize how rich Leo is?"

"I know he's rich but…"

"But what? You're about to enjoy all the luxuries that come with being in his circle. You're entitled to a car, chauffeur, two bodyguards, a butler, two maids, and a laundry girl." Daisy laughed nervously. "That won't be necessary. I can handle chores myself."

Jeffery raised an eyebrow. "But someone just told me she easily gets tired from doing the simplest things?" I know I do," she pouted. "But I've been doing this my whole life. I wouldn't be hmmm—"

Before she could complete her sentence, his lips crashed against hers. His kiss was firm, slow, and demanding. For a moment, she froze but quickly gave in, responding just as hungrily. Their tongues danced, and for a second, it felt like time stood still.

"Wait this is wrong," she said, pulling away, her breath coming in short, uneven gasps. "You know this is wrong. "Why?" he asked, eyes still on hers. "Do you have a boyfriend?"

Yes, I do," she replied, turning her head away.

"Liar."

What?" she frowned. "Why would I lie about that?" Because I could tell from your kiss." He smirked. "That was your first." Her face flushed crimson. "Uh… uh… and how would you know that?" I'm a man, Daisy." He softened his tone. "Listen, I'll be honest with you I've fallen for you, and I want to court you."

"I… I… I…" she stammered, overwhelmed.

Come on, Daisy. We're adults. I know you feel the same. I could feel it in that kiss." Her cheeks grew hotter. He was right. I do feel something," she confessed. "But it could just be attraction. And besides, I'm not in your class, Jeffery. I watched how Alicia was insulted today because of that same reason. I'm not as bold or brave as her. Your mother might not accept someone like me."

Jeffery rolled his eyes dramatically. "Ugh, you talk too much. "Excuse me?" she blinked.

"Who said my mom won't accept you? My mom listens to me, okay? There's nothing to worry about." A small silence lingered between them. "So… is this official?" he asked shyly. "Are we a couple now?"

"I don't think—" she started, but he walked up to her and sealed her lips with another kiss. She melted into it before pulling back again, this time leaning into his chest. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. "Yes," she whispered. "I accept."

"Good," he said softly. "We'll take things slow. We'll start by knowing each other better my family, yours, everything. No rush. We'll build this step by step." Her heart skipped a beat when he said family. "Urhmm… about that," she said nervously, "I don't have one. Alicia is all I've got. We both grew up in an orphanage."

Jeffery's gaze softened instantly.

"I appreciate your honesty. And I mean it thank you. One thing I absolutely can't tolerate is lies. I'm truly sorry about your past."
