"Are you sure you want to stay here with me? I don't want to be a burden to you." Mrs Whitney said, the poor boy must have been working since morning and now he wants to stay here and help her out, that will be too much work for him.
"It's okay, I will be so glad to do it," Jack said.
"Since he volunteered, there's no problem about that. Thanks anyway." Grace said.
"You are welcome Miss," Jack said, how in the world is he supposed to explain to them that he's only helping his sister and doing the right thing only? They won't understand anyway if he told them.
And besides he would like to use the opportunity to take some samples of her hair for the DNA test, he has been wanting to do that but he never found the courage.
It's about time, he needs to be sure if he and Jane are related, he owes that to his mother. She had asked that he take of her but, he lost her. He looked at Jane on the bed with his eyes filled with compassion, he would love for her to be his sister, he was tired of searching for her all this while.
And he would also like to ask Mrs Whitney some questions, probably she would open up about some things and he might just tell her all of the Smith children belong to her and she has been around her children all these while.
"Would you like to eat something? Have you had dinner yet?" Mrs Whitney asked him the moment Chris and Grace left the ward.
"I don't mind, I've not had anything since this morning. You are such a caring mother, your children are so lucky to have you." Jack said and Mrs Whitney smiled.
"I wish I had them," Mrs Whitney said trying to hide the sadness in her eyes.
"I will get you some food from the restaurant, I wish I could go home right now and prepare you something to eat but I can't do that. You would have to make do with the hospital food." Mrs Whitney said trying to change the topic.
"Why didn't you look for them all these years, I'm sure they will be more than glad to know their mother," he said and Mrs Whitney looked at him with so much surprise.
"What did you say?" she asked him, there's no way he knows about her past. He can't believe he just said those words to her.
"What I meant to say is that you should have tried to look for your kids. You said you don't have them so I just assume you probably lost them. Or isn't that what happened?" Jack asked her and she felt a little bit of relief.
Even though she still suspects him greatly, he must have read the meaning of her words. He's such a smart man and that is a good thing, he caught a hold of the truth anyway.
"Oh sorry, I was starting to think otherwise. You must have read the meaning of my words, what I meant to say was that I don't have any children." Mrs Whitney said hoping he would drop the matter, lying like that hurts her. She does have three children and they are out there somewhere and they have no idea that she exists.
"Are you sure about that? You are too caring not to be a Mom." Jack said hoping she would say something but, she just remained silent all through.
"Do you need me to go with you to get the food? It's not good to stress an old lady so much." Jack said it's not nice if he keeps pressuring her like that, she will talk when the time is right.
"No of course not, I can go by myself." Mrs Whitney said and quickly hurried out of the ward to up get the food. Thank goodness that he brought that up, she has been finding a way to escape that place.
Seeing that she already left the room, Jack used that opportunity and cut a piece of Jane's hair placed it inside a nylon and quickly put it inside his bag.
He couldn't afford to be caught by anyone, he was on his way back to his seat when he heard his phone ring, he wondered who the person could be.
"Hey I got something for you." the private investigator that Chris had hired was the one that called him.
"What have you got?" he asked him.
"I found the girl Cassie but, as I was about to approach her. Some group of men came around and she followed them out, probably they found out that I was watching them or they were just being careful." he began to explain.
They refused for anyone to go close to the exit or entrance of the club the moment they led her out, I think they took her away or something. I sent you some pictures, check them out and see if they look like the girl you are looking for." he concluded.
"Where are you right now?" Jack asked him.
"I've been allowed out but the girl and the men are all gone, so I'm pretty sure they took her away. But check the pictures to be sure she's the one, so I know what to do next." the private investigator said.
"Yes sure, I will do that right away," Jack said and hung up, he carried his laptop and checked his mail.
He scanned through the pictures that were sent to him, but he could not see them well because there are quite blurry. They were taken from afar, he zoomed in on the picture and could not believe his eyes.
It's Cassie and those men took her away.
"Damn!!" Jack cursed.
