All around them things kept collapsing, falling, pressing in, and Olivia Ward was held tightly in Alexander Franklin's arms, her head shielded against his chest. She wasn't hurt at all, but the warm liquid on her hands told her very clearly that it was Alexander's blood—he was injured!
"Alexander." In the darkness, not knowing where he was hurt, Olivia didn't dare move. She only called out to him, her voice trembling in a way she herself didn't notice.
"Mm, I'm here." Alexander's voice came from above her head, muffled, as if he were forcing something down.
"Where are you hurt? Can you move?" Hearing his voice, her heart still didn't settle; instead, it tightened even more.
Something was wrong with his voice; it completely lacked his usual easy tone. Combined with the increasingly obvious wetness on her hands, she knew he had to be seriously hurt.
