Cain stood in silence. The battlefield around him was a graveyard of shattered stone and burned earth, still hissing from the aftershocks of the battle. It was unwise to linger where such a clash had taken place, but he did not move. His golden eyes remained fixed on the distant horizon, where the mysterious shots had come from.
He knew he would never catch the shooter. Even after multiple strikes that had ripped through Black Mask, Cain could not sense a single clue about their location. Whoever it was had fired from a distance so immense that even the psychic perception of an Archdeity could not reach it. If such a being wished to remain hidden, nothing could reveal them.
Minutes passed. The wind howled over the ruin. Still, no presence approached.
Cain exhaled slowly. "Ahhh…" The sigh carried a trace of frustration and resignation. Whoever had aided him would remain in the shadows. He could speculate endlessly, but no theory mattered now.
