Lucas sat across from a visibly sweating Callum. His suit was crumpled in places as if he had forgotten to change for days. In his hands was another stack of papers that Lucas hoped wouldn't end up on the already overflowing pile. His gaze flickered to the bed behind a screen that Chloe had set up.
Eva had stirred in her sleep, but only to flip over onto her side. He felt his heart rate pound for just a moment until her breathing settled once more asleep. Callum nervously waited to be given permission to speak in the meantime.
"Mireille asked that I deliver this message to you." Lucas tossed a sealed envelope at him.
Callum fumbled with the letter until he secured it against his chest and tucked it into a hidden pocket within his jacket. The dark circles under his eyes made his face look especially gaunt. The motion caused him to drop several pieces of paper from his arms.
