After taking a long, refreshing bath and eating a simple breakfast of eggs and toast, Ren finally felt human again. The fatigue from yesterday's emotional rollercoaster had mostly worn off.
Before diving back into COVENANT, he decided to call his parents. He hadn't spoken to them since last night, and guilt nipped at the back of his mind.
"Hey, Mom. Dad."
His mother's cheerful voice immediately filled the line. "Ren! Finally remembered your poor parents, huh? How's school? Are you eating properly?"
Ren chuckled softly. "I just had breakfast."
"That's not what I asked," she said sharply.
He smiled faintly, leaning back in his chair as his father's voice joined in from the background. "Let him be, honey. You know how he gets when he's focused. Just don't forget to visit once in a while, Ren."
"I will," he promised, even though they all knew he probably wouldn't anytime soon.
