Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

"Good night, mom." John kissed his mother's cheeks who was typing on her laptop in their living room before retreating to his own room.

John went to his room and jumped onto his bed. "I'm fifteen, yeah! I'm fifteen, I'm fifteen, yeah, yeah…" John sang to himself, hugging his pillow.

When John noticed his phone beeping, he jumped out of his bed and opened his phone. He smiled when he received messages from his friends at school and their church. Some were chatting him, and his church mates were singing him Happy Birthday altogether standing on their Church's stairs, that some were swaying their bodies in sync of the music as they sang in harmony and some were standing stiff given by their personality.

John opened for video call and his friends faces appeared one after the other. "Hey, guys! Thank you so much! God bless you all!"

They continued on talking about anything and turned off when one of his friends was told by his parents to sleep and soon one by one, the call ended.

John placed his phone back on the beside table. He sighed inwardly and smiled to himself. "Thank You, Lord," he muttered.

A thought came to his mind and his eyes grew wide. "I forgot!"

He sprung out of bed and ran to his wardrobe. He opened it out of excitement and his gaze landed below. The box-shaped parcel which haven't been opened, a color of grey, and a sticky shiny paper pressed unto it that says only his name and his address without the sender's name and their address.

"I wonder who gave this," he said, taking the box out of his wardrobe and closed it.

John went to sat on the floor, leaning his back on his bed's foot side. He opened it carefully with his bare hands. Once the box can be taken out, he took the box out. It was a Christmas gift with a green ribbon at its center. Light as a feather, and a tag attached to it saying; "Happy birthday, and Merry Christmas!"

He slowly unravel the ribbon and opened the box. When he saw a piece of paper was in the inside, John wondered why but took it anyway that widened his eyes.

"It can't be," he murmurred. "Mom, come here please!"

His mother dashed to his room with worries on her face. "Son, what happened?" she asked concerned.

"Here," John uttered, stuttering, unable to say words without blabbering nonsense. He too also unable to stand up, too shocked.

His mother walked to him and took the paper and she gasped, hitching her stepping. "No!"
