Chapter 8 - Aren’t you afraid that I’ll find a chance to kill you every night? !

The bathroom door clicked open. Natalie Jennings quickly hid the knife under her pillow, pretending nothing was amiss.

Hayden Sheffield walked over, a bath towel wrapped around his waist, water droplets still clinging to his chest, his hair falling over his forehead, looking lazy and relaxed.

Natalie Jennings lay down with her back to him, her hand reaching under the pillow, ready at any moment!

He seemed completely unaware as he lay down beside her, turning off the bedside lamp.

The bedroom was plunged into darkness.

After a while, Natalie Jennings heard Hayden Sheffield's breathing grow steady; she slowly gripped the knife handle.

All she needed now was to turn over and stab—everything would be over!

Natalie Jennings slowly dragged the knife out from under the pillow, its blade flashing a sharp glint in the darkness.

"Mrs. Sheffield," a deep, raspy voice sounded overhead, "what are you holding in your hand? Hmm?"

Natalie Jennings was startled, looking up to meet his teasing yet dark eyes.

"N-nothing..." she denied, shoving the knife back under the pillow, "Why aren't you asleep yet?"

"So you wish I were sound asleep, so you could make your move?"

Natalie Jennings bit her lip hard. Hayden Sheffield had discovered her!

So, she could only risk it all!

Resolute, she gripped the knife handle, sprang deftly from the bed, and stabbed straight toward Hayden Sheffield's heart!

Hayden Sheffield dodged, grabbing her wrist and twisting it forcefully!

Crack—her bone dislocated!

At the same time, he leaned forward, pressing Natalie Jennings down onto the bed, trapping her beneath him and controlling her!

Natalie Jennings's wrist was dislocated, the knife slipped from her hand and clattered to the floor.

She had failed!

"What are you doing, hmm?" Hayden Sheffield pinched her chin. "Coming for my life?"

Natalie Jennings stared at him, "You knew from the start! I was foolish—your bodyguards would only serve you, never obey me, and they tell you everything!"

"I don't need the bodyguards to tell me," he replied coolly, "You think William and the butler aren't sharp?"

Natalie Jennings instantly understood.

When she went to Sterling Group, William had his eye on her.

The knife she'd taken from the kitchen, and during the butler's inventory, it was already discovered missing.

"Since you already knew everything, why wait until I actually made a move to expose me?" Natalie Jennings gritted her teeth. "Weren't you afraid I might actually kill you?"

Hayden Sheffield gave a low chuckle. "Natalie Jennings, you don't have that capability."

"The victor takes all, Hayden Sheffield. Do whatever you want with me, I accept!"

"You're the Mrs. Sheffield I chose so carefully. How could I bear to dispose of you?"

"Hayden Sheffield," Natalie Jennings' eyes reddened, "you married me just to humiliate me, right? If I hadn't realized you ruined the Jennings family, I would have considered you a benefactor, obeyed you in everything! It feels satisfying to play me like a fool, doesn't it?"

Seeing her desperately holding back tears, he said indifferently, "I never meant to play with you."

"But the Jennings family's downfall is clearly your doing! When I asked you, why didn't you admit it? Afraid?"

"Afraid?" Hayden Sheffield's lips curled cruelly. "I just didn't remember."

Natalie Jennings felt as if her heart were being stabbed.

He spoke so lightly, yet he had destroyed her entire family!

"I have so much to deal with every day," his tone was cold and ruthless, "a small family like the Jennings isn't worth any of my time or thoughts."

"So do you remember now? Admit it?"

"Yes." Hayden Sheffield's finger brushed the tears at her eyes. "I did it."

Natalie Jennings cried out hoarsely, "Hayden Sheffield, kill me! Why not just kill me now!"

Her tears fell in torrents, and Hayden Sheffield painstakingly wiped them away again and again.

"How could I bear to," he leaned close to her ear, "you still have to be Mrs. Sheffield for two years."

Natalie Jennings was pinned by him, unable to move her limbs, and retaliated by biting fiercely into his shoulder.

Her sharp teeth pierced the thin silk pajamas, sinking into Hayden Sheffield's flesh.

Blood slowly stained the fabric red.

He remained silent, as if he couldn't feel any pain.

"So you bit me, Natalie Jennings," Hayden Sheffield said, "but you can't resist me."

"You keep me by your side, Hayden Sheffield, aren't you afraid I'll try to kill you every night?"

"You won't." His breath swept past her ear. "You're not alone; you still have your brother, Aidan Jennings. Isn't that right?"

Natalie Jennings trembled uncontrollably all over.

Hayden Sheffield was threatening her!

She could risk her own life, but her brother... her brother couldn't get hurt!

"Be good," Hayden Sheffield said, "my Mrs. Sheffield."

"I hate you, Hayden Sheffield, I hate you!"

"Hating me's fine, just don't love me."

He got up, preparing to leave the bed. As soon as Natalie Jennings was free, she lifted her foot and kicked at him.

Hayden Sheffield caught her ankle. "Your skills are barely good enough for self-defense. To deal with me, you're still too far off."

Watching his departing back, Natalie Jennings bit her lip hard, tasting blood in her mouth.

His blood and hers, mixed together...

Hayden Sheffield went downstairs. The butler saw the bloodstain on his shoulder and turned pale with fright. "Mr. Sheffield, I'll call an ambulance right away!"

"Don't make a fuss, have Silas Spencer come over."

Silas Spencer was again roused out of bed in the middle of the night, racing over in a hurry.

"I say, the great President Sheffield, since you got married, I've barely had any peace!"

Hayden Sheffield sat on the couch, stripped off his pajamas, medical kit on the table in front of him, looking like he was about to handle the wound himself.

Silas Spencer was about to take the medicine from him, when he heard, "She's in the master bedroom, her hand's dislocated. Go set it."

"Your lovely wife?"

"Mm."

"No way, you two play awfully rough," Silas Spencer said. "One dislocated, one bleeding. President Sheffield, you better take it easy—in this honeymoon phase, even if you're all fire and passion..."

He shot a glare over.

Silas Spencer instantly shut up and obediently went upstairs to set the bone.

Honestly, he'd always been curious about Hayden Sheffield's delicate wife. Finally, he could see her in person!

Natalie Jennings leaned against the bed, staring expressionlessly at her dislocated hand.

Silas Spencer knocked politely on the door, "Mrs. Sheffield, I'm coming in."

"Who are you?"

Natalie Jennings saw a handsome man enter, righteousness in his eyes, long fingers, a gentle smile on his face—looking utterly harmless.

"Silas Spencer, Hayden Sheffield's private doctor. He asked me to set your bone."

Natalie Jennings sneered, "He's that considerate?"

"He'd never be so attentive to anyone else, but you're different—you're his little darling..."

Silas Spencer approached the bed, and the moment he saw Natalie Jennings's face clearly, the medical kit in his hand fell with a bang.

Like he'd seen a ghost!

"I'm not that terrifying, Dr. Spencer." Natalie Jennings looked at him. "What's with your expression?"

"You, y-you, are you human or...?"
