Chapter 9 - Chapter 08

Forest wasn't sure what to do

Even Igna was dumbfounded.

No Pokemon they'd ever battled ran away like that, although they had mostly battled the Pokemon in the outskirts of the Viridian Forest who knew them.

'I guess it's not really too surprising.' Forest thought about it 'Not every Pokemon would be willing to fight to their possible demise..'

"Chimchar... Char?" Igna was confused, he didn't know why the Rattata ran away

"Igna," Forest said "Sometimes if it's in your best interest, you need to make a... tactical retreat"

After Forest gave a little lesson to his Chimchar, they went a bit deeper into the foliage because there was still daylight left, and they weren't too tired.

Forest saw a couple of Pidgeys flying around, and he had thought about catching one, but Igna can't battle flying opponents yet. He can't reach them with his punches, and they just stay in the air while using Gust or Sand Attack, which made Igna dislike them.

He tried just throwing his Pokeball at one, but he either missed or the Pidgey deflected with its wing.

At least Pokeballs didn't break easily.

Forest pulled his attention away from Pidgeys for now and continued to walk.

They came across a small creek as they were walking and saw a Poliwag next to it.

Forest almost immediately thought against battling it, but then he thought about it. Igna has Thunder Punch. If he could get close he could possibly do big damage.

"You wanna battle him, buddy?"

"Char!!" Igna's eyes lit up with excitement

He ran up to the Poliwag and got ready to battle. Noticing this, the Poliwag also seemed ready to battle.

Pokemon battles in the wild were a common occurrence, most wild pokemon were ready to battle at all times.

The Poliwag started it off

"Poli!"

It sent off a Bubble Beam, but Igna was ready.

He barely dodged it.

"Igna, try and get as close as you can, and hit him with [Thunder Punch!]" Forest called out

"Char!" He responded

He ran towards the Poliwag as it continuously sent out Bubble Beams towards him.

Once in range, Igna began to prepare Thunder Punch, but at the same time, Poliwag did something else.

When Igna was about to hit him, the Poliwag hit his tail on the muddy ground and sent it towards Igna.

'!?' Forest was surprised.

The mud hit Igna in the eyes, and as he tried to rub the mud off, Poliwag attacked, with what seemed to be tackle.

"Igna watch out!" Forest yelled

But alas, Poliwags attack hit.

The Chimchar fell on his back, and the Poliwag went in the creek and swam away.

"Igna!!" Forest ran towards his Pokemon

Igna was on his back, he didn't seem too injured though.

Forest wiped the mud off of his face.

Igna was indeed not too injured from the battle, he only got mud in his eyes and tackled back once. Forest gave Igna a couple of berries and rested for a while before they continued to walk through the forest.

As they were walking they noticed something interesting.

A bunch of yellow things sticking to the trees in that area.

As he was looking at them he remembered something...

'Aren't those Kakuna???'

Almost immediately, as to confirm his statement, a big Beedrill appeared..

---

Pokemon: Beedrill

Level: 18

Type: Bug/Poison

Gender: Female

Potential: Yellow

Stats

Health: Decent

Defense: No Good

Special Defense: Decent

Attack: Pretty Good

Special Attack: No Good

Speed: Pretty good

---

Forest almost fainted seeing this.

Not only was this Beedrill double Igna's, but it was a final stage Pokemon.

This was something that made most Bug pokemon either really scary or really good depending on the person.

If you were to own a bug Pokemon, you could have a final stage Pokemon easily. It made bug pokemon very good starters.

But this also made them so scary in the wild. Like right now, Forest was near tears.

Beedrill's are some of the most territorial pokemon out there, and very aggressive, and where there was 1 Beedrill there were always 10's more.

"Igna," Forest whispered.

"Char?" Igna said

"Remember what I said about a 'Tactical Retreat?'"

Igna nodded

"Let's do that. Now!" Forest said hurriedly

He then began to bolt in the direction of the outskirts of the forest with Igna right beside him.

Forest didn't want to risk being seen by the scary Beedrill and her compatriates.

He felt glad that he had been doing exercises with Igna because if he didn't he would probably have a really rough time.

They finally made it back to the outskirts that they were familiar with, and Forest plopped down panting.

Igna was fine though, and he went to go play with the Caterpie's and Gloom's as if nothing had happened.

Forest shook his head.

'Tsk, if only he knew what we could have angered.'

He let out a smile and lay down in the grass spread eagle.

He sat there for a bit before thinking.

'Maybe I should catch a Weedle.'
