He didn't say a word so the council forced him to confess. The ones nearby arrested him. Ollie shook his head. The soldier asked me what to do. Titus asked in a matter of fact tone, "Shoot him" he demanded a trial. The Nocturnal didn't want to waste time since the Vamperuf were a fast growing problem. But the soldier nearest to him didn't blew his brains out. He was given to us so we can hold him till they set up a trial. One of the younger soldier asked me how long before the shield could be extended. Oleg answered, "She needs a day before she can" he asked Oleg why he is answering instead of me. I kindly answered, "Oleg is my husband. He is entitled to answer on my behalf." He stared for a second and asked, "Would you consider moving to a different location?" I shook my head. He was annoyed but he didn't argue. They left since the men on the other end of the radio demanded backup since they were suffering loss.
I went upstairs and rested as I sensed to make sure my family was ok. After a quick head count I was happy to announce that everyone was alive. Ollie asked me if I do head count often. A soldier came and asked me to come with them. I made it clear that I don't go to places with strangers. I stay with my family. The man explained his orders, "Every hybrid must be checked to see if their bite is sterile or not. We are not taking blood samples." Roland yelled, "You are checking if she is the next problem" I asked them to bring their equipment here for testing since I am not going. He called it in. An hour later a man and a woman in lab coat came with a volunteer. I was told to bite him. I did. I saw his life from birth till now. I didn't hold on for long. Maybe a few seconds. The scientist was hoping I would hold on a little bit longer. I explained, "I bite as a self defense. Usually it is blood bags" she seemed unconvinced but after an hour there was no visible changes. They drew his blood and did several tests. He was high as a kite but nothing else. No transformation. They were frustrated. The woman insisted that I bite a fresh volunteer for about a minute or two. I gave her the death stare and she looked insulted. I asked her how many people do I need to bite before she accepts that I am sterile. The man promised this was the last.
I made it clear once the test was done they leave. I am not their guinea pig. I only volunteered to bite. I will not volunteer for blood draw or anything else. They looked at me dejected. I reminded her that she is here to test my bite. She was reminded that she can't take anything else because it is illegal. My blood is off limits. The man agreed and he went on the record to the public that I am sterile. My bite won't change anyone. He also mentioned that I refused let him take my blood after his collegue illegally asked for it. I have trust issues with their intentions. The public was satisfied. I like Roland. Where did you come up with that name?" I answered in a raspy voice, "A boy in my class was called Roland. He was just like you. He was resourceful and wild but never got busted for anything. If someone gets pranked. Nine of ten chances Roland did it. The best part is he won't deny it if he did it. He was one of the few who were nice to me" he grinned, "So I am named after a cool guy." I nod my head as Oleg carried me upstairs.
