Chapter 217 - Chapter 8

I connected with the council members as I sat down to play the piano. All I heard was yelling. Something about him being a one sided ruler. Søren explained that this was one of the places that tourists don't sneak in. Their eyesight fails them. I had made sure if they aren't one of us they will go blind upon entry. Their eyes will work again a day or two after they leave. Eve had me confirm this and they sent retired fighters to see what this town had to offer. They were amazed as they were able to blend into shadows. The werewolves were able to do the same. I had the terraformers do the same for the werewolves. There are three towns where the sun never rises. They are free to be themselves. Søren was a little bit uncomfortable. He was told to be more considerate. I played the Chopin's waltz. Then went upto the net room to sleep. The next morning I woke up to see I was back in my room. I guess the net room was now the sniper's den.

I went upstairs to see there was no one there. I came downstairs and everyone was trying to figure why I sunk the seat. I explained it was for protection. It was possible someone might be able to get in. They would open fire. But if I was down there the bullets will go everywhere but it won't hit me. A collect gasp later they started to look at the living room like an assassin. There was less complaining and more compliments. I went to the library and saw a there was a small section of the wall was removed to make a small room. It had a comfortable couch with silk curtains to cover the area. The walls had hand drawn sketches of medieval castles and dark forests. The bat motifs on the walls and there was a stuff polar bear. I saw a wall of antlers. I sat down with a book and somehow fell asleep. I woke up when Batou felt I had enough. I was upset that I wasn't the general anymore. Julian explained it was for the best.

I should enjoy being a civilian since my reign is going to be hectic. The moment of peace was broken when a werewolf asked why I can't with them if I have given them the same. Søren explained, "Because tourist are not allowed in the vampire quarters. You have tourists all day and night. I am not saying you are incapable. I am saying it is less stressful if we keep her somewhere no one can go to begin with. The way you react around her will convince them to kill her." A council member retorted angrily, "You just placed her under house arrest. This is how it every time you become king. You don't trust us. She let us have a little leeway. You are strict and sometimes one sided." A few agreed. I asked everyone to find a solution. Søren asked them to trust him.

He spend a century in certain districts. He has seen the strengths and flaws in the vampiric quarters whenever he took a break from Excalibur and Umbrella fortress. Right now I need to be in a place I am less likely to be killed. He explained the logistical nightmare they would be in trying to protect me and live a normal life. Security here has fewer issues. Cain reminded Søren that they used to be the daylight guardians of the vampires. They have gone through many hardships. Søren was forced to move me out. I came and gave them hugs. I was told that if anything out of place happens then I going back to the midnight zone. I was taken to the werewolf's midnight zone. There were a few tourists trying to talk to Sirius. They watched as we went in. I heard them protest why we can go in without any damage. Sirius played dumb as he had the sheriff escort them away. I was awed by the place. The air smelled like spice.

The ride lasted an hour. We went up and down a few hills then we arrived. We hopped out to see a replica of the house I protected the wolves and my friends during the apocalypse. I asked them when they had this done. Yen smiled, "I used to have nightmares. This was the first time I felt safe. So when we moved here I had this built." Cain explained, "To honest we avoided this area because we didn't know. We assumed this was a side effect of terraforming. Our people have gone in and out without issue but we assumed it was a fluke. Now we know why this is here we will make good use of it." I grinned, "I added this a safety measure. If we get invaded I wanted all of you to find a space where you will be safe. I lost one family. I have no desire to another." I went inside to see the rooms were identical. Toby happily directed me to the room on the second floor.

The others were moved to the house next door. I went to sleep and woke up to see it was nighttime. It took me a few minutes to remember that I wasn't in Green Dale. I came downstairs to eat and Cain was grinning. He and his wife were wondering if I could mentally link them. I did as they asked. I sat down recalling the mental list I used to make when I was a farmer. First make sure everyone was fed. Then make sure the locks worked. I had to do an inventory of the goods. Then make sure to avoid the cornfields. I remembered myself that the cornfields in Green Dale were trouble. Dead bodies every so often. I would scold the kids if they dare walk the same street. I believe the cornfields here are safer. The others listened very nicely. I recalled chasing away a few disgruntled locals who had the audacity to break in. I finally got them to back off when I made them believe the property was haunted. I came back to reality to see Roland was waiting for me to elaborate.

Jesse came with a box of goodies and he froze as I showed the memories. I made myself invisible and lifted a few people. I threw stuff around and I made them believe a spooky figure walked through walls. This was well before we went to the green thumb farmers market. I had to remember the pranks. Søren called me a menace. I explained, "Rough world. We were surrounded by people with all sorts of ideas. Some were vulgar. Others were down right nightmare. So I did what any sane person would. I made sure to scare them so they would leave us alone. A few still had audacity to harassed us." Cain also the days he would walk the grounds with a gun. The others remember the days they have thrown out intruders. Alex remembered the day he had set off a bunch of firecrackers to scare them.

Søren wanted to see so I showed him. The claim that we stole when we got everything fair and square. The head office had to work harder to erect the wall so we could defend ourselves. How some had tried to demolish the wall. The break in to steal our stuff. They were angry since we guarded the goods till the house was built. The attempts to burn down our house. One of them was complaining that we didn't share our food. The sheriff told him to work hard and earn an honest living. He made it clear he rather steal. He was escorted out of Green Dale. He boarded a train that took him elsewhere. Søren had enough but the council wanted to see the rest. Once I showed them everything. They agreed that inducing fear to keep out the intruders was good idea.

I had to admit. Having Cain and his friends over felt a little bit safer. The kids slept sounder and the attacks became less frequent. The most I got was angry stares. I didn't have to walk faster just because someone was behind me. Jesse looked a little bit overprotective. Serena was standing a stiffly. Oleg was growling. The others looked like they may have met such people. I took a deep breath, "I am not in Green Dale. I am here. I am safe. I have nothing to worry." The others agreed as we settled down to eat. Once breakfast was over I cleaned the place in a matter of seconds. I asked permission to explore. A few came with me. We went to town and the tourists were wondering why our eyes damaged. Sirius told them to give it a rest. They were told to stay in the safe zone. There are hazardous zones which is unstable. They didn't believe him.

They were convinced we were making some sort of super secret weapon. One guy came with equipment to test the atmosphere. His tests proved there was no weapon. This was all natural. He held a press conference and Jesse came up with a story that the area is cursed. This was enough to keep tourists out. They were curious why we could go in without any damage. Sirius simply stated, "I don't know. We are just lucky I guess" when we had the planet terraformed the extent of the terraforming was deleted so it won't be used against us. They couldn't figure out why we were unharmed but they suffer damage. There were very few attempts to trespass after the interview. I watched with amazement as the young man came with more equipment. He was convinced he could figure out how this was possible.

The scientist asked if he could run some tests. Sirius asked him if he wanted to visually impaired for the rest of his natural life. The guy was sure he would be immunized soon. He had to sign a waiver that he and his friends and family can't sue us if he is harmed. He went permanently blind in a month. This was enough to ward off any more unwanted visitors. Things went back to normal. I got to explore the fields. I did help them as farm hand. I help pick and store fruits. I made some preserves and jams. Then I helped milk the cows and I even help to collect honey. I had fun making cheese. I still frightened the cows. It takes a while for them to trust me. I would go to the river and fish salmon with my hands. Serena would stay in the midnight zone. She would rest and recuperate till I come back then she is in bodyguard mode. I was having the time of my life till Søren asked me to move back to the Veil. Let the yelling commence.
