Chapter 26 - The friend who returned

One day, without Thara's knowledge, Cholan brought her to her house under the pretext of a casual visit. To her surprise, he had secretly arranged a grand birthday celebration for her — inviting his parents, friends, and many others. The entire house was filled with joy and laughter. Cholan even bought clothes, a cake, and lunch for everyone there. Seeing his kindness and thoughtfulness, Thara began to develop feelings for him.

After college, Cholan became an officer, while Thara got a job at a bank. Their lives seemed to move forward peacefully, until one day Thara learned that Cholan had been admitted to the hospital. Shocked, she rushed to see him, explaining everything to her friend Christy before going.

Meanwhile, at the WCAO headquarters, a sudden and violent attack broke out. Victor, who was present at the scene, barely escaped, prompting WCAO to begin an intense manhunt for him. Lorentz, Harold, and Azar discussed the situation. "Victor might target our families next. We need to act fast," Lorentz said anxiously.

Cholan, still weak but determined, replied, "Don't worry. Your families are safe at my house. I'll take care of their safety. Nothing will happen to them — you have my word." Then he left to continue his mission.

But peace didn't last long. Another brutal attack struck the headquarters. Lorentz and Harold used the chaos to their advantage and managed to escape. When the dust settled, Azar realized everyone had fled. Furious, he ordered a relentless search for the three of them.

Lorentz, Harold, and Azar went into hiding deep within a dense forest, taking refuge in an abandoned house. While there, Lorentz made a call to find out what had happened. The news shattered him — during the gang war that erupted on the island, almost everyone from their team had been killed. Azar, however, had deliberately spared their lives.

Hearing this, Lorentz was crushed. The faces of his fallen comrades haunted him, while Harold sat beside him, lost in guilt and sorrow as memories of Cholan filled his mind.

They both wondered in fear, Where could Victor be now?

While escaping earlier, Harold had sustained a serious injury to his leg, and Lorentz had treated his wound carefully. Just as they began to rest, they heard a knock on the old wooden door. Startled, Lorentz opened it to find a man standing outside.

"I need to speak with you," the stranger said calmly.

Lorentz invited him inside. The man introduced himself — "My name is Ken. I'm a RAW officer who has been investigating Victor's crimes across the country. I've gathered all the information and sent it to WCAO. But I couldn't complete the full case analysis — that's why things went wrong that day. I was also a close friend of Cholan, from his batch. I knew him well. I came here because of him — to help you."

Lorentz looked at him and replied, "Then help me with one thing, Ken. There's something important I need you to do…"
