Chapter 9 - The Quiver (Part 2)

Mu Lan knew the monsters would attack the moment he surfaced—and they did. But with Agility at 21, he could dodge their strikes. As soon as he entered their range, the creatures lunged. Many launched long-range attacks, while others tried—and failed—to close the distance.

Mu Lan sprinted with everything he had, racing toward the edge of Tao Lake. Arrows of acid hissed through the air around him—spit from Acid Frogs, level-15 monsters. But to Mu Lan, their levels appeared as "??"—a sign they were more than 10 levels above him. He couldn't even see their stats. Fighting them was out of the question.

Every near-miss sent a jolt through his nerves. The acid splashed just inches from his feet. One misstep, one moment of hesitation—and he'd die. Worse, he might lose the scroll. The thought alone made his blood run cold. So he pushed harder, channeling every ounce of willpower into his escape.

Miraculously, not a single scratch marked his body when he finally cleared the lake's perimeter.

Without wasting a second, he opened his inventory and examined the Magical Quiver Scroll. A quiet smile spread across his face. The required materials were exactly as he remembered. And he knew three ways to obtain them:

1. Drop from monsters — but that could take hours.

2. Buy from the Player Market, where users listed items for in-game or real currency. The game company took a 10% commission on every sale.

3. Complete special quests that rewarded the materials directly.

Mu Lan headed straight for the city center and opened the market interface. To his surprise—and luck—the exact items were already listed. Only the most fortunate players dropped these in the game's earliest hours. If they'd known a limitless quiver could be crafted, they'd never have sold them.

He didn't hesitate. He bought everything instantly.

Total spent: 70,000 credits.

Remaining balance: 30,000 credits.

It was his parents' money—but this was an investment in power. And power was worth every coin.

Now in possession of all required materials, he returned to the Archer Master, the same NPC who'd given him the hidden quest. He handed over the scroll.

The NPC read it carefully, then nodded.

"To craft the quiver, you'll need the following."

Leather ×10Magic Stone ×2Magical Quiver Scroll ×1

Mu Lan submitted the items without hesitation.

Ding!

Begin crafting the Magical Quiver?

[Yes] / [No]

He selected Yes.

Crafting initiated. Completion time: 1 hour.

Perfect. He knew exactly how to use that hour.

Since he'd soon have infinite arrows, his starting 100 arrows were now worthless to him—but incredibly valuable to others. In the early game, no one had 10 copper coins to spare. They'd flock to the market the moment they ran out.

Mu Lan listed his arrows for 10,000 credits—a steep but fair price. He knew they'd sell fast.

Then, with a smirk, he set off to prepare a surprise for Beng Zeng.

When Beng arrived in the city, Mu Lan would take him straight to the Paladin Master to unlock his hidden quest. And while they were at it, he needed to find Beng a decent shield. In the early game, a good shield could mean the difference between life and death—and put them leagues ahead of other players.

He checked the market again… but no shields were listed. No surprise—most players didn't even know shields mattered yet.

But Mu Lan remembered something better.

Of course!

The reward for Beng's hidden quest was a craftable, upgradable shield—one of the rarest early-game items. These shields bound permanently to the user, never dropped on death, and could only be lost if manually sold. Like the quiver, it was a lifetime asset.

All he had to do now was wait for Beng.

While he waited, he decided to dip into alchemy. Potions were another goldmine in the early game—and he knew exactly which ones would sell for top credit.

He headed to the Alchemists' Guild. To craft potions, he first needed to complete the Novice Alchemy Training.

He approached the Alchemy Master and accepted the quest.
