Madam Beckett let out a shaky sigh. "I know."
Vincent looked away, his face tightening with what could easily pass for worry. But behind that troubled expression, his thoughts had already taken a darker turn.
Was this old woman trying to trap him?
She knew very well that, aside from Maximilian as the current Grand Viceroy, Vincent was the other person—one who would be overjoyed, obviously— who could bring something like this before the council. And once he did, there would be no taking it back.
Not that he minded the thought of Ryley finally paying for what he had done. Vincent would be lying if he said otherwise. A part of him would even take pleasure in watching that arrogant bastard receive the punishment he had managed to escape for so long.
But wanting Ryley punished and being stupid enough to put the noose around his neck himself were two very different things.
Especially when Clyde was... still breathing and alive.
