Chapter 9 - Conclusions

After extensively toying with their new plaything, the two men grew increasingly frustrated as he remained unresponsive. Sato's bleeding profusely, barely conscious due to the excruciating agony coursing through his body.

The interrogator's frustration with the torturer's methods became evident. The torturer, unsure of how to further torment Sato without risking his life, retrieves another item from beneath the table—a syringe filled with what appears to be adrenaline.

"Can I administer this?" the torturer inquires, seeking approval from the interrogator, who responds with a thumbs-up.

"Just remember not to kill him yet," the interrogator reminds.

Sato's condition is far from fine. His feet and hands bear the burden of shattered bones, his nails ruthlessly torn off, and his body riddled with drill-induced punctures.

With an axe, the torturer severs Sato's left arm, cauterizing the wound to prevent him from bleeding to death. Nails protrude from his arms and legs, testament to the torturer's relentless hammering.

Injecting the adrenaline into Sato's trembling body, he abruptly awakens, overwhelmed by a surge of intense sensations.

"Please... just stop..." Sato pleads in agonizing torment as the adrenaline courses through his veins.

"You see... I'm genuinely proud of you," the interrogator declares, his voice tinged with an unsettling mixture of sincerity and sadistic satisfaction.

"You haven't divulged a single detail about your family... and you willingly came here alone, solely to shield your little sister. You possess an admirable resolve, boy, truly commendable. But allow me to shatter this courage of yours, alright?" he continues.

"My master commanded me to subject you to this... yes, yes, he explicitly instructed me. Regrettably, there was little I could do," Sato discerns the sarcasm laced within the interrogator's words.

"But you know, we never really gave a damn about your sister or even about you, to be honest... We just wanted someone to send a message to your uncle, you know?" the interrogator sneers.

Somehow, in that moment of pure anger and pain, Sato finds a twisted sense of relief in hearing this. He had been terrified about these guys going after the rest of his family.

"Actually, it ain't just you gettin' tortured in this hellhole... There are other rooms in this damn building, filled with men and women gettin' treated like shit, just like you," the interrogator says with a calm yet arrogant tone.

"We wanted some extra info 'bout our future enemies, ya know? Hopin' this little warning would scare the crap outta them. If they don't wise up after seein' you in this sorry state, they're in for a world of hurt, ain't they?" the interrogator asks.

Sato listens to all of it, tears rollin' down his face. He knows better than to scream, 'cause it'd only make things worse for him. Amidst all the sufferin', he manages to glimpse a flicker of hope.

"Y-Yeah... They'll come to their senses, just let me go home like this, they'll understand..." Sato pleads desperately with his torturers. At this moment, all he sees in front of him are two sadistic monsters—one breaking him physically, the other shattering him mentally.

"See, everyone gettin' tortured here is 'cause their dumbass families got some beef with us. Just like you. You're payin' the price for your brilliant uncle's actions. We took our sweet time decidin' to do this, but our leader finally gave us the green light," says the interrogator.

"Right here, we're havin' this lovely conversation, while in the room next door, Mashida's daughter is gettin' raped after sufferin' through half an hour of torture. You should consider yourself lucky you ain't a girl, kid," the interrogator says with sickening enthusiasm.

Sato can't believe what he's hearing. "Officer Mashida's daughter has been here all this time, in the room right beside us?"

"I ain't gonna lie to ya. We thought about cuttin' off your little snake with our knives, but you showed such courage, such determination not to spill any beans, that we decided to spare ya as a little gift, ain't that right, brother?" he asks the torturer, who nods in agreement.

"These guys are psychos... I'll kill 'em..." Sato's only thought is revenge, fueled by his burning rage.

"What... What's your name...?" Sato asks the interrogator, his voice trembling.

"Oh, how cute. He wants to know my name after all this. Well, I don't see why not. I'm Suzuki, and this here's my brother, Eto. Pleasure to make your acquaintance," Suzuki mocks, enjoying the situation.

"When the hell are you gonna let us go...? Haven't you tortured us enough...?" Sato pleads, desperation dripping from his words.

Suzuki, who's been sitting all this time, stands up and brushes off his clothes. He's dressed in a sharp suit, like some damn business executive. Eto is wearing something similar, but the main difference is that he's covered in blood. Sato's blood.

Suzuki glances at his watch and gives a nod to Eto. The brother stops cleaning his torture tools and rises to his feet. He moves behind Sato, preparing to do something.

"So, sad little boy... our time here is up... Turns out you're even stupider than I thought," Suzuki says in a sorrowful tone.

"Did ya really think we'd let you live...?"

These words shattered Sato's spirit in a way that only he could feel and put into words. Any remaining shreds of hope were crushed, just like he knew he was as soon as he arrived in this hellhole. He could only cry silently, because if he dared to utter a word, Eto would break another bone of his.

"Too bad, kid. I'm off now, gonna have some fun with Mashido's daughter too. Heard she stopped crying after the seventh guy," Suzuki remarks, casually leaving the scene as if it were all in a day's work.

"These guys... They ain't human... They're fuckin' monsters," Sato's mind echoes, overwhelmed by fear of dying and the crushing sense of helplessness.

Sato's nerves are on edge, the adrenaline coursing through his veins driving him to the brink of madness. He can't stop fidgeting. Eto fetches a wheelchair and places him in it, not bothering to prevent any escape attempts—Sato's hands and feet are already broken.

All that awaits him now is his final judgment. Eto blindfolds him and waits for a few minutes, probably taking a smoke break. Once done, he stubs out the cigarette on one of Sato's wounds caused by the power drill, eliciting agonizing screams.

"Ain't ya gonna give me a break after all this...?" Sato sobs, but the only response he receives is a pipe strike to the back of his head, leaving him dazed.

Before leaving the room, Eto leans in close to Sato's ear, breaking his silence for the first time he can recall.

"You're nothin' but worm food, boy... I ain't got no sympathy for anyone connected to Otto," he mutters. It's strange, but as those words reach Sato's ears, he feels a dark aura draining the very life out of him. Eto harbors intense hatred towards his uncle, but there's something more at play. It's as if his words are robbing Sato of his will to exist.

The pain inflicted upon Sato is unbearable, reducing him to silence as Eto resumes pushing the wheelchair. As they draw closer to their destination, Sato becomes aware of the sounds of despair from others in the building. The echoes amplify his anger, and tears continue to stream down his face, fueling his sense of impotence.

Eto stops at a place. Even blindfolded, the intensity of the light is palpable. Minute by minute, Sato hears another person being brought to his side. Some remain silent, while others are gagged to maintain the eerie silence.

"Sorry, Yuu... I fought, but I'm weak and couldn't do shit. I love you, sister. Please forgive me for not taking better care of you." Tears flow incessantly as Sato accepts his fate—death.

"Otto, I hope you and Aunt have a good life with my sacrifice. Now, be quiet for the sake of my cousins, you old bastard."

"And you, God... Why...? Why me...?"

As Sato thinks of his family, a man begins to speak, and the room falls into silence.

"The family has completed its mission! With this, you are all finally free from this misery..." The moment those words leave his lips, a man a short distance away attempts to shout, only to be silenced by the sound of a gunshot.

"We grant you mercy now, and may your families understand your sacrifice." The declaration is met with agreement from the other criminals, and then it begins.

A gunshot, and a person crumples to the ground.

Another gunshot, and another life is extinguished.

A man next to Sato falls after yet another shot.

Those beside him hit the ground...

"Why, God...?" Sato's final plea escapes his lips.

A gunshot signifies the end.
