Andrew looked at his boss Eric Crown and wondered what came over him. Earlier, he rushed into the hospital, carrying the injured woman with utmost care, mindful of her state. He left him his assistant behind, and he was trying to catch up with him. Andrew had attempted to take the woman from Eric, but he refused to allow him or even his driver to touch her.
As they entered the hospital, Eric immediately alerted the nurse at the reception. "We need a doctor now!" The emergency staff and nurses ran towards him, seeing the injured woman in his arms.
As the doctor instructed the emergency personnel to take the woman they brought to the operating theatre.
A nurse approached Eric with some papers for him to sign. Without reading them, he signed, his mind preoccupied with the woman's condition. Dr. Robert, the medical director of the hospital, came back and asked Eric about the woman's identity.
Eric turned to Dr. Robert, puzzled. "What does that have to do with anything?" Dr. Robert explained that he wanted to know if she was a family member.
Eric replied, "No, I don't know her. She was hit by my car, and we just rushed her here."
Dr. Robert looked at Eric with a mix of surprise and concern. "Were you driving?" Eric shook his head. "No, my driver was." Dr. Robert reassured him that they would take good care of her, but added again that her condition was critical.
Eric felt a strong sense of attachment to the woman, and he couldn't understand why. "She can't die," he told himself repeatedly.
Andrew approached Eric, holding a change of clothes and pointing towards the restroom. "Sir, you need to change, you have blood all over you" Eric, however, remained seated, dazed, with the incident replaying in his mind.
Andrew signed heavily. His boss who was always unaffected by other people's issues, is so involved in this mess, he has tried to get him to let him handle the matter but to no avail.
" Sir, you need to change your clothes now." Andrew reminder his boss again.
A nurse approached them, asking about the woman's identity for their records. Andrew explained that they didn't know her name, as she was already unconscious when they brought her in.
Dr. Robert suddenly emerged some one hour later from the operating theatre, pulling off his face mask. "You have a baby girl," he said with a smile. Eric looked surprised. "Me?" Dr. Robert chuckled. "Well, you brought her in."
Eric's face turned serious. "What about the woman?" Dr. Robert's expression turned somber. "She's alive, but in a coma. We've taken her to a private room."
if Eric wanted to see her, Dr. Robert led him to the woman's room. Eric stood by her bedside, looking at her face, and felt a pang of familiarity. He couldn't be sure, though, due to the bandages and plasters covering her injuries.
Dr. Robert explained that the woman had a serious head injury, which might be causing her comatose state. Eric felt responsible, despite knowing he wasn't driving the car.
As they stood there, Eric realized they didn't know anything about the woman. He asked Dr. Robert if they had found any identification on her, but they hadn't.
Dr. Robert suggested keeping the baby for a few days while they tried to identify the woman and locate her family. Eric agreed, feeling overwhelmed by the situation.
When Dr. Robert invited Eric to see the baby, he hesitated but eventually followed the doctor to the newborn baby ward. Seeing the baby girl through the glass, Eric felt a mix of emotions. He had never been to a baby's hospital ward before, and the sight of the tiny creature brought a sense of wonder.
Dr. Robert pointed out the baby, and Eric's eyes locked onto her. She was beautiful and cute, lying quietly in her bed. Eric felt a strange sense of connection to the baby, and he couldn't explain why.
As Eric gazed at the baby, he felt a sense of calm wash over him. The baby's tiny features and gentle breathing seemed to soothe his frazzled nerves. Dr. Robert noticed Eric's fascination with the baby and smiled.
"She's a beautiful baby, isn't she?" Dr. Robert said, his voice low.
Eric nodded, still looking at the baby. "Yes, she is," he replied softly.
Dr. Robert continued to explain the baby's condition, telling Eric about the medical care she would need and the challenges she might face. Eric listened intently, his eyes never leaving the baby.
As they stood there, Eric couldn't help but wonder about the woman's identity and her family. Who was she? What was her story? And what would happen to the baby if they couldn't find her family?
Dr. Robert seemed to sense of understanding Eric's thoughts. "We'll do everything we can to find her family and take care of the baby," he said reassuringly.
Eric nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Dr. Robert and the hospital staff. He knew that the woman and the baby were in good hands.
Eric turned to Dr. Robert. "I want to know everything about the woman's condition," he said firmly. "I want to be kept updated on her progress."
Dr. Robert nodded. "Of course, Mr. Crown. We'll keep you informed."
Eric's determination to help the woman and the baby had grown stronger. He was now more invested in their well-being than ever before.
Eric continued to stare at the baby , surprising himself, and don't ask me what's going on I cannot explain it!
Babies are the last thing that interest him but not this one.
He turned and saw his assistant looking dazed, like .."is this really happening".
Eric was given an hospital gown and gloves, to protect the baby. He went in with the doctor, and when they got to her bed he stood there for a while just staring at her.
"She is premature, so we had to put her in an incubator" Doctor Robert explained.
"Premature? Does that mean not born at full term" Eric asked the doctor and he nodded. "But what does the incubator do for her?" Eric asked, curiously.
"She was born early, less than 37 completed week. That's the most common reason to put a baby in an incubator" the doctor explained.
" She needs to remain in a controlled, enclosed environment so that's where the incubator comes in. It provides heat to keep a constant body temperature and mimics the uterine environment, the womb."
"Oh, oh I see. So she cannot be taken out" Eric asked
"She can for a while since she is breathing well. Do you want to carry her ?" Doctor Robert asked Eric
" Yes." Eric found himself answering.
A nurse opened the lid to the incubator and lifted the baby out carefully, offering her to Eric.
Eric hesitated at first. He had never carried a baby before and she looked so small.
" It's okay, will teach you how to carry her."
The nurse said seeing his hesitation.
Eric carried her very carefully and slowly from the nurse who corrected him on how to balance her head.
It was a very sensitive task, he was so on the edge.
