Prologue

To those that read this,

I am no one,

Or so I was led to believe.

Darkness.

All around me there was nothing, no light at the end of the corridor, nothing.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I am dead. Right?

If I remember correctly I was sitting against a tree reading a book and then I felt something grab onto my shoulders. Everything after that is blank, so here I am in the dark.

What do I do in this situation? I want to be able to see but how?

There are stories about this kind of thing happening to others, calling it an opportunity but none of them involved being stuck in an abyss.

Think, think, think. How did those stories go, come on.

When of age, a select few are welcomed into our honoured halls, but first is a test, feel the space around you and accept it and only then will you pass

Ah so that was it. All I needed to do was accept the darkness but how does one actually go about doing that? I can't say some corny line about how I accept the darkness.

-Everything begins to warp-

Wow, that actually worked. When I could finally see again, I was in a garden by myself. Alone yet again, I hope this won't turn into a habit.

As I looked around the garden to readjust to the light I felt a lump under me. I jolted upwards in confusion and noticed that I fell on top of a very blue creature. I moved closer to get a better look at it but a flash of blue flew towards my face, and within a matter of seconds I was flat on my back again staring up to the cloudless sky.

I moved my hand up to my face and felt my forehead knowing that it hurt but being too confused to be able to acknowledge it. When I snapped out of the confusion a fluttering noise began to make itself known.

I turned my head towards the noise finally realising what I had landed on and what it was that knocked me back to the ground, a Sprite.

The only problem is, as far as I know, they shouldn't exist. While that was sinking in I finally noticed the three moons in the sky and before my confusion reached its peak, I began to hear the sound of people grunting. I jumped back up and noticed that I wasn't actually alone and the series of events that had taken place was in full view for the people to watch.

Using the word embarrassing would have been an understatement. I was too surprised to say anything, especially when I finally saw the building that stood gloriously behind them as if it was inviting me in. At that moment I felt my jaw drop.

"Where on Earth am I? Wait, I can't be on Earth, it only has one moon. So where is this, another world?"

That would explain the sprite that I saw.

"Ok, calm down" I told myself.

A metal orb hurtled past my head and smashed into a garden post, almost destroying it. I looked towards the direction it appeared from and noticed someone signalling me to approach. With that I finally broke out of my stupor and slowly walked towards them. When I finally reached them, I heard a hoarse voice asking me,

"Name, skill and alignment."

"Alaric, I don't know about the other two questions though" I answered as I stared at her.

As if the lady in front of me had expected me to answer the way I did, she quietly waved me through the gate without a word except for a displeased grunt.

I began to walk forwards towards what seemed to be the entrance, confusion still being present with each step I took, but the closer I got, the more excited I became.

Still walking slowly, with neither a hint of confusion or fear as I got closer to the entrance. To a new beginning. Welcoming this new environment with open arms as I finally arrived beneath the two colossal doors that were inviting everyone within. I stopped and looked up to see a sign that read,

"Lunares Academy"

My name is Alaric.

This is my story,

and it has only just begun
