Sitting on his side of the bed, Lex flexed his hands as he thought about what had happened earlier tonight. It was surreal to see Clark on red kryptonite, to experience how far he could truly fall. In reality, it wasn't that far; even with no inhibitions, Clark Kent didn't have it in him to take another life. Lana had been in no danger, nor had his child. Yet he couldn't exactly sit back and watch as Clark kidnapped his fiancée, now could he? There was another reason he had rushed to the barn so quickly, earlier that night, even when Clark tossed him into a wall, his powers hadn't activated. Even as Clark pushed him into wooden posts, he felt nothing, but it did point out a huge flaw in his powers. He wasn't as strong as Clark; Zod had been Clark's equal if not better, yet Lex was nothing more than a child before the strength of Clark. He'd need to move up the experiments; he needed to find a way to further his own strength. What would happen if one day Clark were affected by something worse than red Kryptonite? What if Superman fell, and he was forced to face the entire universe alone?
"Does it hurt?" Lana entered the room wearing a sheer gown.
Lex shook his head, "Even on drugs, Clark can't bring himself to cause anyone actual pain."
"That's good," Lana said, climbing into the bed, placing her head on Lex's shoulder. "I know you were protecting us, but I need to know Lex." Raising her head, she looked him in the eye. "Were you going to kill Clark?"
Lex didn't speak; instead, he reached over towards his bedside table, reaching inside the drawer, he pulled out the same pistol he held tonight. Removing the clip, it fell into his hand, revealing the "bullets" inside. Except they weren't bullets.
"Are those-"
"Tranq darts," Lex finished with a smile on his face. "Clark was tripping on some kind of drug, but I don't think he deserved to die, I don't think I could take that step even if I tried," Lex said, watching as Lana reached an understanding. Not to mention what would bullets do against Clark?
She reached over, grabbing his hand, "I never should have invited him," she said apologetically.
"I don't think it was Clark's fault, Lana." She raised an eyebrow at that, but Lex continued, "Before I left the mansion to find you, I overheard Chloe and Mrs.Kent talking. Lois and Clark's drinks were spiked at a Valentine's party they were attending. The drug made Lois fall in love with the first guy she saw, but it seems to be affecting Clark differently." Lex didn't explain anymore.
"You're not asking me about what happened in the barn?" Lana asked, and Lex could see her vulnerability. "About what Clark said," She continued, looking up at Lex.
"I'm sure somewhere inside of you, you still love Clark," Lex stated the obvious. This was the whole reason he was hesitant about continuing the relationship with her. If Clark was right about anything, it was the reason Lex and Lana were getting married. Did he love her? Yes, he was sure she felt the way about him. But they had been brought together by the hurt that Clark had caused them. Lex hadn't planned on marriage, at least not so soon. It was the baby, and wanting the perfect family for his child, one completely different from the one he had grown up in.
"I won't let that love ruin our relationship, though," Lex said, watching as Lana's eyes suddenly became clear. "But I do think we should sign a prenup," Lex said, shocking Lana.
"I don't plan on leaving you, Lex, ever," Lana said quickly, only for Lex to shake his head. "Even if we did divorce, your money is your money."
"I believe you, but the prenup is for you," Lex said, smiling. "You'll get Nell's house and the land alongside it. I'll even return the Talon. How we feel about each other right now isn't necessarily how we'll feel about each other 2 years down the line. I want you taken care of, not even some future version of myself should be able to ruin that. You just have to be honest with me, Lana, if you wish to leave one day, just tell me, and I'll handle the rest."
"Lex," Lana said softly, leaning into him, and she placed a kiss on his lips. The rest of the night was one of passion; one might say Clark's actions had brought Lana and Lex closer together.
