Xia Weibao urged him on, her eyes shining as she waited for praise.
Lu Hualiang took a bite; fragrant, tender, delicious—indeed very good.
"Well? Well? Not bad, right?"
"Mm, it's really good."
Xia Weibao was satisfied. "The roast boar will be even better later. If you like it, I can roast for you often in the future."
"No need."
"Why, you don't like it?"
Lu Hualiang's affectionate gaze was so deep it was as if he could see straight into her heart. "Once you're by my side, you won't need to do this kind of heavy work anymore."
Thump, thump—her heartbeat picked up speed.
Xia Weibao lowered her head, not daring to look into his eyes again.
Those eyes had magic in them; they could make a person lose themselves.
The wild boar was roasting slowly, and the sky had already grown dark. All around was quiet.
Now and then came a few chirps from insects.
Lu Hualiang slanted a glance at Xia Weibao's face, intent on tending the roast, then stood up.
