Chapter 11 - warnings

Hazel and Maya were finally taking some time away from everyone, catching up on some of the things that they've missed over the past couple of weeks. "So, how'd you and Charlie get into things?" Hazel questioned as she sipped on her tea. Maya tucked her legs underneath herself as she popped a grape in her mouth.

She quickly finished chewing before responding. "Ace. Being involved with him was putting my life on the line and the guy that wanted me dead just so happened to be Charlie's boss. So Charlie told him that we were dating and that he had already marked me. S-"

"Marked you?" Hazel cut Maya off.

Maya looked at Hazel with confusion. "You don't know what a mark is, or what marking someone is like?" Hazel quickly shook her head, wanting Maya to explain what it was already. "Marking is basically like marking territory for male wolves. It's practically telling other wolves that you're off-limits." Hazel nodded her head in understanding. Hazel stole a grape from Maya before urging her to continue with the story of her and Charlie.

Maya nodded before sinking deeper into the couch. "So he, Noah, wanted proof that Charlie and I were actually in a relationship. So, when we went there, we pretended to be in a relationship, and even though it was Ace's idea, he got mad. He tried to force himself on me and after that, me and Charlie had gotten closer. Before I knew it, I wasn't looking at him as the Charlie that I grew up, but instead in a completely different way." Maya smiled softly at the thought of Charlie.

"Honestly," Hazel started. "It sounds like there's always been apart of you that's always loved Charlie, and I don't mean as just friends either." Maya tilted her head towards Hazel as she popped two grapes in her mouth.

"Maybe, but what about you and Zac? How's that happen?" Maya smirked knowingly at Hazel whose face turned bright red.

Hazel looked away, trying to avoid the question. Maya made a sound of disapproval, trying to wiggle any information that she can out of her best friend. "It's really boring, I don't think you'd be interested in knowing," Maya gave Hazel a knowing look. "Seriously."

"Spill. Let's go, or I'll go and ask Zac who'd, I'm sure, would be more than willing to tell me about it."

Hazel looked at Maya in horror. "You wouldn't." Maya simply raised her brows before turning her head, munching on the few grapes that sat in her hand. "Fine, dammit. I'll tell you." Maya turned her attention back towards Hazel, waiting for her to continue. "Wehadaonen..."

"Huh?" Maya asked, not being able to decipher any of the words that Hazel just said. "Wehadaonenig..." Once again, Hazel's words seemed to fade out as she continued on with her sentence. Maya narrowed her eyes at Hazel. "Spit it out already."

Hazel huffed out air in annoyance, trying her best to avoid telling Maya. "We had a one night stand!" Maya's eyes widened as she stared at Hazel in disbelief. "No, you didn't." The look on Hazel's face told Maya that she was telling the truth.

Maya snapped her mouth shut when she heard the front door open. Charlie and Zac wandered into the house, laughing and talking with each other. Hazel and Maya shared a confused look. "Hey, guys." Maya called out.

"What's this?" Charlie asked as he plopped on the couch beside Maya. He swung his arm over her shoulder before kissing her temple. He stole a grape from off of the table, munching on it. "You guys having lunch without us?"

Maya nudged his side. "Seems like you guys were hanging out without us, so you can't judge." Charlie chuckled at Maya before eating a few more grapes.

"You had the food, though." Zac pointed out making the girls roll their eyes. "What? I'm a man, I need to eat." He whined before stealing a slice of pizza from the plate that it sat on.

Hazel rolled her eyes at her partner before leaning in closer towards Maya. "You going to ask or am I?" Hazel whispered making Zac give her an odd look.

"Ask what?" Zac asked.

Maya stole a grape from Charlie before responding. "Are you two friends now? I mean you know with you still being best friends with Ace, I would have thought that it was impossible."

"Hey, Zac and I are friends. Ace is an asshole, that's why I don't like him." Charlie pouted.

"That's actually the reason that I'm here. Ace- he's changed a lot since you chose Charlie. It's like he completely forgot who he was. Since you didn't directly reject him, he hasn't physically felt the pain, yet." Zac explained. Maya played with Charlies's fingers while she absorbed Zac's words. "I'm not telling you this to make you feel bad, far from it. Yet, I am telling you this to make sure you watch your surroundings." Zac's voice dropped a few octaves as his eyes visibly darkened.

"Are you threatening her?" Hazel asked. Her arms were folded over her chest, her left brow raised in questioning.

Maya and Charlie stifled a laugh as they watched Zac stumble over his own words. Once he finally calmed himself down, he shook his head with a hard expression. "Of course not. I just wanted to tell her that this could end very badly if Ace attacks without thinking; something he had a tendency of doing, if you haven't noticed."

"Yeah, trust me, I have noticed." Maya chuckled weakly. She twisted one of the rings on Charlie's finger before tugging it off and putting it back on. "I'll keep my eye open. I promise."

Charlie leaned down, planting a soft kiss on Maya's temple. "Don't worry. I got you." He winked at her making her roll her eyes with a soft smile.

"I wouldn't get too cocky if I were you, child." Maya chuckled. "You don't have a good record of taking down big bad wolves." Maya teased. Charlie frowned at her before pushing her away. Maya laughed at him before grabbing his arm and throwing his arm back over her. "I got you on this one." Maya winked back at him.

"I do too." Everyone was shocked as the words left Zac's lips. He looked at them with a questioning look. "What? Although he's my best friend, doesn't mean that I agree with him. Plus, I'm quite fond of you guys to watch him take you guys down. I won't allow it."

Hazel instantly made a face towards Zac, teasing him. "I don't know. If you ask me, you've been a lot more open-minded about everything since that fight."

Zac released a humorless chuckle at Hazel's words. Maya smirked as the couple began to bicker at each other. "Hey," Charlie whispered in Maya's ear, sending a wave of shivers down her spine. His arms snaked around her waist dragging her, somehow, closer to himself. "I won't let him lay a finger on you. Over my dead body."

Charlie placed a sweet and gentle kiss on Maya's marking. The sparks that ignited underneath the mark, traveling throughout her body, was indescribable. They continued, growing stronger as Charlie's lips brushed against the temporary mark. "Charlie . . ." Maya mumbled softly, trying not to draw attention towards them.

"Soon, princess. I promise." Maya didn't need anything else to understand what Charlie meant. Charlie's teeth scraped over the delicate skin. Maya whimpered as her body filled with an unknown heat. "Very soon."
