Chapter 52 — Too Convincing for Comfort
Yeon Joo had known from the moment she pushed Lee Yeong out of their chamber that he could not spend the evening looking miserable if they truly wanted Concubine Seo to believe she had gained his favour. She had been the one who insisted he accept the invitation, remain in Seo's quarters long enough for the servants to gossip and behave warmly enough that whoever had encouraged the woman would believe the plan had succeeded. Those instructions had sounded perfectly reasonable when Yeon Joo gave them while sitting safely across from her husband with a medical report between them. Standing beside the royal dinner table in the clothing of an ordinary wine maid, however, she was discovering that watching Lee Yeong follow those instructions required considerably more patience than giving them had.
