Instead, it grew from a personal need to build a world where the air is thick with the scent of cold iron, where engines rumble in the depths of forgotten canyons, and where flawed individuals struggle to survive against impossible odds. I wrote this story, first and foremost, for myself. While the setting is one of rust and airships, the heartbeat of the narrative is deeply personal. I have drawn from the well of my own experiences to breathe life into these characters and the trials they face. Their struggles with shame, their desperate need for autonomy, and the rough-edged humor they use as a shield are all echoes of my own journey. Every scar described in these pages, whether physical or unseen, carries a piece of my own history. Writing this has been a way for me to explore the resilience of the human spirit—the way we find hope gleaming like an oil slick in the dark, and the way we learn to stand our ground even when the world feels like it's grinding us down.
