It was quiet…

No screaming.

No gunshots.

No one running.

Just the distant sound of traffic and birds somewhere in the trees while I sat on the concrete steps outside the apartment building, elbows resting against my knees.

I'd been there long enough for my coffee to go cold.

The door opened behind me and footsteps came down the stairs.

Stopped, then went back up one.

I didn't need to look.

"What?"

"Nothing."

"Will."

"I'm assessing the situation."

I finally glanced over my shoulder.

Messy blond hair. Stupid expression.

"What situation?"

He pointed at me.

"That."

"Very helpful."

"Thank you."

He came down the remaining steps and dropped beside me.

I frowned.

"What are you doing?"

"Sitting."

"I can see that."

"Good. Ballet didn't destroy your eyesight."

I elbowed him.

"Fuck off."

"There she is."

I rolled my eyes and looked back towards the street.

Will didn't ask why I was sitting out here, that surprised me.

He knew about my parents.
