The Sacred Ice Pool was completely silent.
Sam walked slowly into the large cavern.
The room was made of clear, solid ice.
In the center, a deep pool of glowing blue water rested quietly.
Thick white mist floated above the surface.
The air was colder than anything in the lower realm,
but Sam didn't shiver.
He took off his coat and stepped into the pool.
The water felt like liquid freezing metal.
It instantly rushed against his skin, trying to freeze his blood.
Outside the heavy ice doors, Mu Xuanyin and Mu Bingyun stood guard.
"Is he really going to break through in there?"
Mu Bingyun asked, looking at the closed doors.
"His energy is too low. He is only at the Sovereign Profound Realm. That is the peak of the mortal level. But this pool contains pure primordial qi. It might crush him."
"You don't understand him,"
Jasmine said smoothly. She leaned against the ice wall.
"He doesn't follow the rules of your world. He never has."
Mu Xuanyin crossed her arms. Her eyes were sharp.
"Cultivation has strict laws,"
Mu Xuanyin stated clearly.
"You must build your foundation. You must gather energy step by step. If a mortal tries to swallow the ocean, he will drown."
"Watch and see,"
Jean smiled softly.
"Sam isn't trying to swallow the ocean. He is going to replace it."
Inside the room, Sam sat down in the center of the blue water.
He closed his eyes.
"It is time,"
Sam whispered to himself.
He opened his hands.
Three small glowing stones appeared from his storage space.
They didn't look like profound crystals.
They didn't have the aura of this universe.
One was a deep, glowing blue. The Space Stone.
One was a fierce, bright purple. The Power Stone.
One was a dark, shifting red. The Reality Stone.
"To reach the Nascent Soul Stage, a normal cultivator forms a small spirit infant,"
Sam thought.
"But I didn't need a spirit infant yet until I got my hand on the soul stone. I need a perfect vessel. I must break my mortal shell completely first."
He pushed his energy into the three stones.
Instantly, the blue pool turned into a violently boiling pot of raw energy.
The Space Stone flashed.
A blue cube of energy formed around Sam.
It locked the space in the room so the explosion of power wouldn't destroy the entire Snow Song Realm.
The Power Stone roared.
A massive wave of purple lightning shot out from the stone.
It hit Sam directly in the chest.
Sam gritted his teeth.
The pain was absolute.
His skin cracked.
His mortal bones shattered.
His human blood burned away into nothing.
The purple energy was destroying his old, weak body.
It was tearing him apart atom by atom.
"Break,"
Sam commanded.
He pushed all his willpower into the pain.
He felt the hidden chains of the universe trying to hold him down.
These were the shackles of karma.
They tied every living thing to the cycle of life and death.
The Power Stone surged again.
With a loud, snapping sound that echoed in his soul, the chains broke.
Sam was free from the karma of this world.
His mortal shell was entirely gone.
He was nothing but a floating soul in a storm of purple energy.
Now, he needed a body.
He activated the Reality Stone.
The red light mixed with the purple and blue.
"Rewrite it,"
Sam ordered the stone.
The red light surrounded his floating soul.
It began to build him a new vessel.
It used the heavy primordial qi of the pool and the infinite power of the stones.
New bones formed.
They were perfectly white, shining with a faint purple light.
New veins grew.
They were no longer mortal profound veins.
They were wide, endless rivers of space and power.
New skin covered his muscles.
It looked completely normal, but it was tougher than a dying star.
Outside the heavy doors, the entire ice palace suddenly shook.
Mu Xuanyin took a step back.
Her eyes widened in pure shock.
"What is that?"
Mu Bingyun gasped. She grabbed the wall to steady herself.
The thick blue ice doors were glowing with a terrifying purple light.
"That isn't profound energy,"
Mu Xuanyin said. Her voice lost its usual calm.
"I have never felt anything like this in my entire life. It feels like the universe is being ripped open and stitched back together."
"I told you,"
Jasmine smiled, looking at the purple light.
"He makes his own rules."
"But this is impossible,"
Mu Xuanyin said, staring at the doors.
"He was just a mortal. I sensed his level clearly. He was at the Sovereign Profound Realm."
"What is his level now, sister?"
Mu Bingyun asked quickly.
Mu Xuanyin closed her eyes and focused her powerful senses.
She tried to read the energy leaking from the room.
When she opened her eyes, she looked completely confused.
"He broke through,"
Mu Xuanyin whispered.
"He crossed the divine limit. His realm... it feels like the Divine Spirit Realm."
"He jumped four entire realms?"
Mu Bingyun asked, completely stunned.
"To jump from Sovereign Profound to Divine Spirit in one day... that is a miracle. That should take a thousand years of hard training."
"That isn't the strange part,"
Mu Xuanyin said. Her hands were actually trembling.
"Why?"
Xia Qingyue asked, stepping closer to the Realm King.
"Because his level says Divine Spirit,"
Mu Xuanyin explained slowly, looking at the girls.
"But his actual presence... his weight in the world... It is terrifying."
"How terrifying?"
Jean asked.
"I am a Realm King,"
Mu Xuanyin said. She stood up perfectly straight.
"I sit near the absolute top of this universe. But the energy coming from that room makes my soul want to bow. His power rivals the Divine Master Realm."
Mu Bingyun covered her mouth in shock.
"A Divine Master?"
Mu Bingyun whispered.
"But that is the highest level of the current era. Only the God Emperors hold that kind of power."
"I know,"
Mu Xuanyin said. Her eyes were locked on the glowing doors.
"He has the realm of a Divine Spirit, but the absolute combat power of a Divine Master. I have never seen a cultivation path like this. He completely broke the common sense of the world."
The violent shaking suddenly stopped.
The purple light faded away.
The heavy ice doors slowly pushed open.
White mist poured out into the hallway.
Sam walked out of the mist.
He was wearing fresh, clean clothes.
He looked exactly the same as before.
He didn't look older.
He didn't look glowing or magical.
He just looked completely calm.
But as he stepped forward, the air around him seemed to bend.
The space itself moved out of his way.
He didn't have a single drop of mortal energy left in his body.
Mu Xuanyin stared at him.
She felt the heavy pressure hitting her senses.
"You did it,"
Mu Xuanyin said quietly.
"Yes,"
Sam answered.
He looked at his hands and clenched his fists once.
"The mortal shell is gone. I have reached the Nascent Soul stage."
"I don't know what Nascent Soul means,"
Mu Xuanyin said honestly.
"But you are standing in front of me with the strength of a true ruler. You could destroy this entire realm if you wanted to."
Sam looked up at her and gave a small, simple smile.
"Don't worry,"
Sam said casually.
"I only destroy things that get in my way. You helped me. We are friends."
Mu Bingyun let out a long breath of relief.
"What will you do now?"
Jasmine asked him. She walked up and circled him, inspecting his new body.
"You got what you wanted."
"Now?"
Sam asked.
He looked up toward the ceiling, as if he could see through the ice and into the stars above.
"Now that I have the strength, I need to keep a promise. I have to find a dragon's daughter. And Jean has to help the daughter of the true Phoenix out. She was hibernating somewhere."
