SIMONE'S POV
The elevator doors opened.
Simone stepped out first.
Theo followed beside her.
He had remained suspiciously quiet for almost forty seconds.
Simone glanced at him.
"What?"
Theo frowned.
"I didn't say anything."
"Exactly."
"You told me you had questions."
"I do."
"So now I'm preparing."
"For what?"
"I don't know. That's what makes it stressful."
Simone laughed despite herself.
Good.
That helped.
Outside, Theo opened the passenger door for her.
She stopped.
"You opened my door."
"I have manners."
"You once ate fries off my plate without asking."
"That was intimacy."
"That was theft."
"Debatable."
Simone got in.
By the time Theo joined her, she felt less like she was approaching a relationship summit.
Which was probably the point.
He pulled into traffic.
"Ready?"
"Question one."
His hands tightened slightly on the wheel.
"Already?"
"What are we doing?"
"Driving."
"Theo."
"Sorry. Reflex."
She waited.
