The double doors of the hospital emergency bay exploded inward with a sharp metallic crash. The medical team moved with rapid, practiced steps, sprinting alongside the gurney as it glided across the floor.
Emily lay flat on the mattress, her face completely translucent, her lips a faint shade of blue. The portable vitals monitor hooked to the side of her frame emitted a continuous, high-pitched electronic warning beep that echoed violently.
"We have a massive internal bleed!" the lead obstetrician shouted, his hands already covered in crimson as he pressed a heavy gauze pack against her lower abdomen. "The placenta is detaching! The maternal blood pressure is bottoming out at sixty over forty! We need the trauma suite prepped for an immediate, emergency Caesarean section right now! Move!"
