The run had done nothing to clear my head.
I trotted back toward the packhouse with my fur still damp from the stream I had crossed two miles ago.
My muscles were burning but my mind kept circling back to Candace, and Ash was restless and unsatisfied, constantly growling inside my head.
We hadn't seen Candace in three days because she had locked herself in her room, and it shouldn't have bothered me. She was nobody to me, or at least that was what I kept telling myself, but it did bother me. It really bothered me.
I shifted back to human form behind a tree and grabbed the spare clothes I had stashed there earlier. The sun was setting and painting the sky in shades of orange and red, and at least something matched my mood.
I pulled on my shirt and pants and slipped into my sneakers before heading toward the main building when I spotted Reign and Ragnor on the shooting grounds with Candace storming off in the distance.
