Chapter 67 - THREE WAY STANDOFF

The tangled brush gave way as Kyle pushed deeper into the suffocating canopy, his boots crunching over frost-rimed twigs and severed roots. But as he closed the distance to the source of the spatial distortion, a sharp, familiar vibration echoed through his spiritual core. A mana signature—cold, ancient, and drenched in the suffocating sulfur of the abyss—brushed against his senses.

*Him,* Kyle thought, his silver-gold eyes narrowing into lethal slits.

Emerging into a massive, cratered clearing torn straight out of the ancient timberland, Kyle raised his hand, shouting back without looking over his shoulder. "Xavier! Go back—now!"

*Swoosh.*

Before the warning could fully leave his lips, a razor-sharp, obsidian-etched dagger tore through the dark air from behind him, aiming straight for his jugular. Kyle's survival instincts—honed through relentless combat experience—flared to absolute life. His hand whipped upward like a striking viper, his black-gloved fingers snapping shut around the spinning hilt of the blade just inches from his throat. With a contemptuous flick of his wrist, he hurled the weapon away into the dark.

"Do you think I'll fall for the same trick twice?" Kyle muttered, his voice dripping with dry mockery.

He tilted his head sharply to the left. A second poisoned dagger grazed past his ear with a vicious hiss, shearing off several strands of his silver-white hair before embedding itself deep into a trunk behind him.

"What do we have here?"

A deep, mocking rumble cut through the heavy air. Stepping out from the swirling debris of the crater was **Vilthrax**, the high-ranking demon prince. Two massive, jagged horns stood proudly under the pale filtered moonlight, framing a face of sickly, unnatural pallor. His skin was stark white, stretched taut over bone, and his wild eyes carried a chilling, unmistakable hint of deep, unhinged madness.

At the edge of the clearing, the masked shadow-figure froze. For a fraction of a second, whatever heavy, blood-soaked burden he had been carrying slipped from his grip, falling onto the damp earth near Kyle's feet. In that quiet beat, Kyle felt an uncanny, unsettling sensation—as though the weeping porcelain mask was staring directly through him, weighing his soul.

Vilthrax grinned, baring rows of razor-sharp, blood-stained teeth, his pale face twisting into an ecstatic, feverish smile. "Looks like it's my lucky day," the demon prince purred, his callous voice betraying a terrifying, casual cruelty. "I get to kill the runaway prince charming... and *you*." He nodded toward Kyle. "What do humans call it again? Killing two birds with one stone."

"Enough,"

The masked shadow interrupted Vilthrax, his voice pulsing with a harsh, synthetic, yet undeniably commanding authority that vibrated in their bones. "This does not concern you, human. Leave."

Kyle spared the masked figure a cold, unblinking glance, but offered no response. Instead, his focus snapped entirely back to Vilthrax, refusing to afford the demon prince even a microsecond to initiate an offensive spell.

"I've been waiting for this moment," Kyle breathed softly, the air around him beginning to shimmer with high-tier pressure. "It's time we end what we started."

Vilthrax couldn't help but laugh, a breathless, unhinged cackle that genuinely amused him. "Nice trick you got there," the demon sneered as a complex, high-tier armor of condensed, defensive runes rapidly wove itself into existence around Kyle's frame, sealing him in radiant, silver-lined protection.

The ambient mana in the clearing thickened, turning heavy and viscous. It began to surge and spiral violently, bending the light around the three combatants.

The masked shadow-figure, unable to discern whether Kyle was a temporary ally or a hidden enemy, prepared to strike should Kyle prove to be a threat. Yet, seeing that Kyle's attention was locked entirely on Vilthrax, the shadow recognized a rare opening to exploit the demon's blind spot.

High above in the canopy, hidden safely among the dense needles, Xavier watched the unfolding nightmare. His fingers flew across a silver communication talisman linked directly to the silver eclipse, reporting every detail straight to Aston.

*"I'm on my way,"* Aston's voice crackled back through Xavier's mind, cold and sharp. *"Keep your eyes open; I'm debriefing Valen and Luke right now."*

Down in the crater, the three-way war erupted.

The battle was monumental, a chaotic storm of slaughter that leveled the surrounding ancient trees into matchwood. Each combatant possessed abilities that directly countered or clashed with the others in a maddening dance of survival.

Kyle's destructive output possessed the unique property of negating Vilthrax's dark spatial slashes, yet Kyle's raw elemental output was constantly smothered and dampened by the encroaching, absolute domains of the masked shadow. Vilthrax, on the other hand, fought with an eerie, predatory familiarity; he systematically probed and exploited the defenses of the masked shadow, seeming to anticipate every spatial flicker and teleportation trick the shadow attempted, while Kyle remained terrifyingly accustomed to the brutal, unforgiving pacing of a demon's close-quarters combat style.

For a long, agonizing stretch, they were locked in a brutal stalemate. But in the crucible of high-tier combat, stalemates are merely a slow bleed.

Both Kyle and the masked shadow began to visibly slow down. Vilthrax's signature void-toxin—carried on every blade and razor-sharp claw—was taking its inevitable toll. Its potency multiplied exponentially inside their bloodstreams every single time a dagger grazed their skin or tore into their flesh.

Cloaked entirely in a dense, swirling shroud of living darkness, the masked figure fared marginally better than Kyle, using the shadows to dull the poison's systemic spread. Kyle, however, was running out of time.

*I can't let this poison shut me down,* Kyle thought, his teeth gritting so hard his jaw ached.

Channeling his supreme mastery over 8th-circle mana, Kyle issued a silent, brutal command through his own veins. He forced his internal mana to ignite, commanding his very blood to burn with scorching, cleansing heat. A faint steam hissed from his pores as the intense thermal purge aggressively evaporated the black venom coursing through his system—leaving him reeling from the agonizing self-inflicted burns, but clearing his mind.

Vilthrax, sensing the shift, twisted away from Kyle just as a barrage of razor-sharp ice spears—summoned by Kyle's desperate elemental reserve—rained down upon him. Vilthrax slashed frantically, his pale skin glistening with cold sweat and madness, but the masked shadow capitalized on the opening, weaving his dark tendrils to block the remaining spears and instantly turning them into a counter-assault of jagged shards aimed straight at the demon's heart.

The demon prince stumbled backward, gasping for breath, beginning to slowly succumb to the deep, lingering injuries left behind by the freezing onslaught.

The air grew dead, heavy, and impossibly thin.

"Screw this," Kyle snarled, his voice dropping an octave as he violently disengaged from the melee, sliding backward through the shattered dirt.

Across the crater, Vilthrax and the masked shadow idiotedly halted, picking up on the apocalyptic shift in atmospheric pressure. Realizing an overwhelming, indiscriminate technique was incoming, both combatants instinctively braced themselves, their muscles coiling to survive whatever nightmare Kyle was about to unleash.

Kyle planted his boots firmly into the shattered earth. He straightened his back, rolling his shoulders as the black leather gloves on his hands began to smoke with absolute, pitch-black void-energy.

Locking his glowing silver-gold eyes dead into Vilthrax's crazed, pale-faced gaze, Kyle spoke with terrifying, unnatural calm.

**"SOUL WORLD MANIFESTATION: ETERNAL VOID."**
