Chapter 489: Tragic Kusagakure! Konan Makes Her Move

"Leave none alive."

Shunichi snapped his wrist, flicking a string of crimson droplets from the edge of his blade. His voice carried the cold indifference of a butcher sorting meat.

Behind him, the elite Uchiha vanguard moved in perfect, lethal synchronization. Crimson eyes spun in the smoke-filled air. The roaring heat of Fire Release jutsu scorched the earth, turning the battlefield into a blazing inferno. Possessing the strongest dojutsu in the ninja world, these Uchiha were flawless killing machines. With every flash of steel and burst of flame, another body hit the dirt.

At the epicenter of the slaughter, the leader of Kusagakure scrambled desperately through the mud and corpses. He rallied his shattered, bleeding forces, dragging them toward the encampment of Amegakure. In his frantic mind, the Rain Village—another minor faction caught in the crossfire—was their only remaining lifeline.

"Lady Konan!"

The Kusagakure Leader spotted the elegant figure floating high above the carnage. A desperate, pathetic glimmer of hope ignited in his eyes.

"Kumogakure and Iwagakure have abandoned us! They used us as bait! We must join forces to break through this encirclement!" He waved his arms frantically. "Quick! Have your subordinates provide cover fire!"

Blind to the reality of his situation, the Grass Leader charged headlong into Amegakure's defensive perimeter with several hundred of his battered loyalists, their backs completely exposed.

High above the blood-soaked earth, Konan looked down at the disheveled, panic-stricken Grass ninjas. Her exquisite features were a mask of absolute frost. Not a single ripple of empathy disturbed her cold, amber eyes.

"Join forces?"

Her red lips parted. The words drifted down, freezing the very air around them.

"I believe you have misunderstood your position."

Countless sheets of pure white paper fluttered into existence behind her back, folding and locking together to form a massive, angelic pair of wings.

"Amegakure has never been your ally."

The desperate smile on the Grass Leader's face shattered. A bone-deep chill spiked from the soles of his feet straight up his spine.

Konan lowered her chin. "Fire."

The Hidden Rain shinobi, who had been standing like silent statues along the perimeter, moved as one. At this point-blank range, the kunai and explosive tags they had already drawn required no aiming.

A torrential downpour of steel and fire engulfed the Kusagakure forces.

"Aahh!"

"Traitors! You vile traitors!"

"You will burn in hell for this!"

Explosions ripped through the ranks. The Grass Leader watched in absolute, paralyzed horror as his trusted subordinates were shredded into mist and charred meat in the blink of an eye. His eyes bulged with bloodshot fury.

"Bastard!" he roared, his hands flying together in a desperate blur of hand seals. He channeled every ounce of his remaining chakra. "Grass Release: Thousand Needles—"

He never finished the technique.

A flurry of white paper descended from the heavens. Each sheet was infused with razor-sharp chakra, slicing through the air faster than a thrown shuriken. The paper blades effortlessly bypassed his hastily raised defenses.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Blood sprayed across the mud. His jutsu fizzled out instantly as the paper blades impaled his limbs. The Grass Leader collapsed to his knees, wheezing, looking like a discarded, broken sack.

"This is the sorrow of the weak."

Konan drifted down from the sky, her feet touching the bloodstained earth without making a sound. The massive paper wings behind her back disassembled, instantly folding into a long, lethal spear. She pressed the razor-sharp tip directly against his trembling throat.

"In this world, power is the only eternal truth."

She did not bother looking at him a second time. "Take him away."

Konan turned her back and walked away. Several Hidden Rain shinobi materialized from the shadows, expertly slapping chakra-suppression seals onto the Grass Leader before dragging his limp, bleeding body away like a dead dog.

On the far side of the battlefield, the meat grinder was operating at maximum capacity.

The suicide squads left behind by the Stone and Cloud villages displayed a terrifying, fanatical resilience. using the rocky terrain, they threw their lives away in a desperate bid to buy time for their main forces to retreat.

Unfortunately for them, they were standing in the path of Konoha's new generation of monsters.

A blinding flash of gold tore across the battlefield.

Naruto Uzumaki had fully unleashed his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode. Wreathed in a blazing, golden chakra cloak, his speed broke the sound barrier, rendering him completely invisible to the naked eye.

"Rasengan Barrage!"

Naruto crashed directly into the center of the enemy formation. Dozens of golden chakra arms erupted from his back, each hand manifesting a violently spinning sphere of compressed chakra.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

A chain of deafening explosions shattered the earth. The thick Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall that the Stone ninjas had just erected was obliterated like wet tissue paper. Over a dozen elite Iwa shinobi were caught in the raging chakra storm, their bodies violently launched into the air before they could even draw breath to scream.

A Cloud chunin stared at the crater, his hands trembling violently as he gripped his broadsword. The golden figure standing in the dust looked less like a ninja and more like a descending god of war.

Before the chunin could force his legs to move, a piercing, high-pitched screech shattered the air—the sound of a thousand birds crying out in unison.

A jagged bolt of blue-white lightning tore through the battlefield, carrying an overwhelmingly oppressive, domineering aura.

Sasuke Uchiha stood amidst the carnage, his chokuto drawn. His crimson Mangekyo Sharingan spun slowly, coldly analyzing the pathetic prey before him.

"Don't get in my way," Sasuke muttered, his voice dripping with disdain.

His figure vanished.

The Cloud chunin saw nothing but a faint blur. A split second later, an agonizing cold bloomed in his chest. He looked down. A massive, gaping hole had been punched straight through his armor. His heart was entirely gone, shredded by lightning.

"So... fast..."

The chunin collapsed backward, his lifeless eyes staring at the gray sky.

Not far from the lightning strikes, the air grew thick and heavy.

Swish. Swish.

A massive tidal wave of yellow sand surged wildly through the air, blotting out the sun. Gaara floated silently above the chaos, his arms crossed over his chest. His face was an absolute void of emotion. Beneath him, the endless sea of sand moved as if it possessed a ravenous will of its own, surging forward to swallow any enemy foolish enough to attempt escape.

"Sand Coffin."

Gaara extended one pale hand, slowly closing his fingers in the air.

Down below, half a dozen Stone shinobi who were desperately forming hand seals found themselves instantly swallowed by the rising tsunami of sand. The grains wrapped around their limbs, locking them in place, binding them tighter than iron chains.

"Sand Waterfall Funeral."

Gaara clenched his fist tight.

The massive pillars of sand abruptly contracted inward. The immense, crushing pressure instantly pulverized bone, armor, and flesh. A sickening crunch echoed across the field, followed immediately by a geyser of crimson mist. Blood seeped deep into the earth, dyeing the pale yellow sand a horrifying, dark red.

"Monsters..." a dying enemy gasped, crawling through the mud. "They're all... monsters!"

The heavy, metallic stench of blood rode the wind, blanketing the entire region and completely smothering the natural, earthy scent of the forest.

The slaughter had raged for two full hours. The deafening roars of jutsu and clashing steel had finally died down to a sparse, eerie quiet. This silence was not the arrival of peace. It was simply the result of a total lack of living bodies left to make a sound.

Inside the Konoha Main Camp.

Shikaku Nara lifted the tent flap and walked briskly into the command center. He approached the desk, dropping to one knee in a fluid, practiced motion.

"Hokage-sama. The latest battle report."

Akira Uchiha sat behind the heavy wooden desk, leaning back into his chair with an air of absolute, relaxed authority. He rested his chin on his knuckles. "Speak."

"The first echelon, comprised of the suicide rear-guard forces left by Kumogakure and Iwagakure, has been entirely annihilated," Shikaku reported, his voice steady and professional.

"And the small fry from those minor villages?" Akira asked, his tone laced with mild amusement.

A flicker of cold disdain crossed Shikaku's usually lazy eyes. "Completely routed. The moment the main forces of Cloud and Stone abandoned them, the allied forces of the subordinate villages—Kusagakure and Takigakure—suffered a total psychological collapse."

"As per your strategic deployment, Amegakure's leader, Konan, intercepted them along their only viable retreat route. The high-ranking officers who attempted resistance were executed on the spot. The vast majority of their ordinary shinobi surrendered immediately, throwing down their weapons."

Akira nodded slowly, absorbing the information.

Shikaku paused, reaching into his flak jacket to retrieve a small, tightly bound intelligence scroll. ", Konoha's main pursuit force has successfully caught up with the enemy's second rear-guard unit. The fighting there is currently intense. The enemy is trading lives for time, trying to bleed us."

"Let them try," Akira murmured, his dark eyes gleaming with a dangerous light.

"There is one more thing," Shikaku added. He hesitated for a fraction of a second, his expression turning somewhat odd, as if unsure how to frame the next piece of news. "It concerns Mifune of the Land of Iron. And the samurai forces under his command."

Akira raised a single eyebrow, his interest genuinely piqued. "Oh? What about that old man?"
