Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The morning felt heavier than the one before.Isabella hadn't slept. Not really.Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the hallway again stretching too far, too dark, like it didn't belong inside her house. And the whisper. It still echoed faintly in her mind. She stepped outside, hoping the daylight would clear her thoughts. It didn't.The air felt still again. Too still.Even the leaves on the trees barely moved.

"Okay," she muttered, crossing her arms.

"I'm not staying inside all day."If something was wrong, she needed to understand it.And that meant exploring. She walked farther than she had the previous day, following the narrow dirt roads that wound around the edge of the village. The farther she went, the fewer houses she saw.The fewer people.Soon, it was just her and the trees.

The path she found wasn't obvious. At first, it just looked like a patch of overgrown bushes. But something about it caught her attention.A gap.Small, barely noticeable.Like something had passed through it… many times. She stepped closer. The air shifted.Subtly.But enough for her to notice.

"…this wasn't here before," she whispered.Or maybe it had been.Maybe she just hadn't seen it.She reached out, pushing aside the branches. They resisted at first—Then gave way too easily.Beyond them—A narrow path. Her heart began to beat faster."Of course there's a path," she said quietly.

"Because why wouldn't there be?"She let out a nervous breath. She should turn back. That thought came clearly.Strongly.But instead, she stepped forward. The moment she entered, the world changed. The sounds disappeared. Not gradually.Instantly.No wind.No birds. No distant voices.Just silence.Isabella froze.

"…okay," she whispered.

"That's not normal."Her voice sounded too loud.Too sharp in the emptiness. She turned slightly, glancing back. The opening behind her was still there. The village beyond it faint.Distant.Like it was farther away than it should be.

"I can still leave," she said. But she didn't.

Instead, she kept walking. Each step felt heavier than the last. The trees along the path grew taller, closer together.Their branches stretched overhead, blocking out the sky.The light dimmed. And the silence deepened.Isabella wrapped her arms around herself.

"This is just a path," she said.

"Just a path."But her voice lacked conviction. After a few minutes or maybe longe. She noticed something strange.

The path didn't feel like it was leading forward. It felt like it was pulling her.Like something at the end of it was waiting. She stopped walking. Her chest tightened.

"…I shouldn't be here," she whispered. And yet She didn't turn back.

"Stop."

The voice came from behind her.
